The MOVMAX Vintage Camera Cage arrived in impressive packaging, though it lacks a formal instruction manual. If you are struggling to figure out how to insert your DJI Osmo Action 6, look for the black sliding mechanism on the side. Simply push it forward—the “arrow” is stylized for aesthetics, so it’s easy to miss, but it releases the door so you can slide the camera in.
Design & Aesthetics
This cage completely transforms the look of the camera. It takes the modern, rugged DJI Action 6 and gives it a charming, high-end vintage feel. The aluminum alloy feels sturdy, and the leather accents provide a nice tactile grip.
Performance & Framing Tip
While the cage looks fantastic, there is a slight learning curve with framing. Because of the cage’s design and the red shutter button placement, I found that my finger occasionally entered the shot when shooting in Wide or Ultra-Wide modes. I recommend switching your FOV settings to Standard (Dewarp) to ensure your fingers stay out of the frame while holding it.
This is a very nice looking and feeling add on for the Action 6. The core of the cage is a sturdy metal body with a soft leather covering and matching strap. The shutter button and push on 49mm filter holder are nice to have for using it as a still camera especially but also useful for video. The cold shoe is nice to have for a light as well. The strap is a nice feeling soft leather with really nice stiching. The strap is thinner than I’d normally like but for the small sized Action 6 it fits and works very well. For use as a stills camera this works well but there are drawbacks to using it with video. The biggest negative for me is that you have to remove the camera from the cage to charge it or transfer files. Having several cages that have a small door I know they could have easily done that here as well. Another thing it’s missing is one of the reasons to use a cage and that’s the portrait mode position clip they add. It would have been hard to add that to this and keep the retro feel but it is something you give up. Having owned a k1000 and several AE bodies this recreates the vintage feel pretty well and takes me back to using those bodies. The Action 6 is kind of under rated for taking photos and this definitely puts you in the mood to use it for pictures. The filter holder and cold shoe make this more than just a retro cosmetic item but one that enhances usability too. I think for the price it comes up just a bit short as far as value goes when compared to a standard cage and filter holder. With this you get an all in one setup and the vintage look and feel while still being able to shoot video and use the landscape clamp which is exactly what some people would want. I will definitely be using this for stills from time to time when on a trip where I don’t want to bother with one of my mirrorless bodies and a lens. The coolness factor is doing a fair bit of work here but all told I think it’s a useful cage setup.
I really like this camera cage — it gives my DJI Osmo Action 6 a much more aesthetic, almost vintage look, which is exactly what I was going for in my content. The build quality feels solid and durable, not cheap at all.
It fits perfectly and doesn’t interfere with using the camera, buttons, or screen. I also like that it adds a bit of grip, so it feels more secure when filming.
If you care about both functionality and the visual look of your setup, this is definitely worth it. It instantly elevates the overall feel of the camera, especially for content creation.
