Well designed wall light with GFCI outlet but average build quality
I ordered two of these to install on my porch and back patio. Neither has a wall receptacle and I have been relying on adapters that add two prong receptacles to the bulb sockets. I wanted a more permanent solution and more modern looking fixture.
For clarity, the 11″ version I ordered has two features that I thought were reserved for the 18″ version. First, it has a button on one side of the unit that controls just the light socket; this means that if you have the light connected to a wall switch, you can leave it on to keep the GFCI receptacles powered while still being able to control the light separately. The enclosure also comes with a magnetic door on the bottom that fully encases the light bulb; note the door can be more firmly closed with an included screw in addition to the magnetic seal.
My only complaint is the quality of the grommets that are part of the four screws that fasten the fixture to the wall bracket. They seem to be quite brittle and began to crack as I tightened them to fix the unit solidly to the wall and avoid any wobble. I’m not as worried about the fixture I’ve installed on my porch which is enclosed, but I’m a bit worried about moisture getting into the unit installed on my exposed patio. Some more durable rubber grommets would have been better.
This light looks nice and was easy to mount. I needed something without motion sensors and auto dimmers. I have a heated mat on my back porch to melt the ice that builds up from where the water drips off the roof. When my porch light is on, my mat is on. Works great.
beautiful dual purpose ligh
Easy to install and looks beautiful with the vintage lights that were suggested to buy. Love the dual electical outlets on the bottom. We have one outside outlet around my house and had to be very creative in ways to find power. Don’t forget the safety switch on the actual light. We thought we installed it incorrectly but it’s the safety feature when you are using the outlets. Love it! We highly recommend it.

This is exactly what is described – a decent looking porch light with a built-in GFCI outlet. They look good and the descriptions are accurate.
I installed three of them.
One microscopic nitpick and two very small complaints:
1. (Microscopic) – the connecting wires are pre-stripped – but the amount of insulation removed is too small. The stripped wires are just crammed in and thus the stripped ends get crinkled and bent making it harder to strip more without cutting – and you might not want to shorten them. This is really a ridiculously small issue to mention but I did just mention it….
2. To install, you remove a backplate, run the power wires through a hole in the center, and then mount the backplate onto the wiring box. The issue is that the backplate is very symmetric and thus will only fit wll on standard wiring boxes (ie. octagons). My house is older (umm, that’s why I’m replacing porch lights) and my old porch light was mounted onto a a standard 1 gang outlet box, which did not match for the backplate. I had to purchase a ceiling light adapter for each porch light. It worked fine but was a trip to the big box store whereas if the backplate had the more typical spacings that accomodate lots of different mouting options, it would have worked better. Not a big deal, and not their fault (my porch lights were probably 60 years old) but there is room for improvement.
3. Even with the backplate well mounted, the light is somewhat bottom heavy and tends to roll forward toward the bottom. My wiring boxes were not quite that secure and thus tended to pull forward just slightly. I put window weather stripping around the surface of the backplate against the wall, which helped a bit (and also I hope will help keep water out of the power box). I might shim under the bottom edge of the backplate if the remaining slight tilt bothers me.
These are all very small complaints. I would buy these again.
I found a more realistic installation time for this product if you are doing it alone is 1 hour +. If you have help, and your electrical box accommodates the mounting plate I can see where it could be done in 30 minutes as many have indicated.
I have these lessons learned: 1.) If alone, you will need something to support the light fixture securely while you make the electrical connections. I used a boot lace and ran it through the mounting holes on the mounting plate and the light fixture and tied it, securing the fixture near the mounting plate to freeing your hands to make the wire connections. 2.) Test it before installing the fixture over the mounting plate. 3.) If the light does not work after you make the connections but the GFCI outlet is green, push the light bulb control button on the side of the unit. 4.) A larger diameter head on the screw w/rubber washer that attaches the fixture to the mounting plate would be helpful to people working alone forced to hold the fixture in place with 1 hand and get the first screw installed with the other. Or, a screwdriver with magnetic tip.
