Does a specific job well, but not for residential DIYers
This is a commercial-grade fixture not intended for home use. It shouldn’t be considered by DIYers who don’t have considerable experience with electric fixtures (preferably commercial-grade) and suspended ceilings.
This troffer fits a standard two-foot-square suspended ceiling grid. It’s intended for commercial environments where there must be light even during a power failure, for emergency-exit purposes. It bundles a standard LED troffer with a preinstalled battery backup.
The light itself is well-built and quite bright. The output is adjustable for lumens and color temperature, and the light supports commercial-style central dimming with DIM+ and DIM- wires—NOT household dimmers. The color temperatures let you match soft white, cool white, and daylight bulbs well.
Installation is complex due to the nature of the light. You’ll need to install a metal junction box into an adjacent ceiling tile to install the status and test indicator for the battery backup; an old-work box would be the easiest. The button is attached to a preinstalled AC whip that comes with a push connector for a 3/8″ knockout. The button is preinstalled on a cover plate, and connected to the whip with included WAGO connectors for ease of installation. This button is what loses this fixture a point: the extra effort required, and the need to have something else sticking out of the ceiling. The button could be integrated with the fixture, which would make installation much quicker and easier and result in a cleaner look.
Wiring up the fixture is straightforward, although you do need to provide both switched and full-time hot leads so the battery can charge and the light can identify a power outage. (DIYers, that means you’ll need to run three wires plus ground from the switch to this fixture.) All connections are made via included WAGO connectors. Wire stubs are provided for those who unaccountably want to attach the incoming wires using their own wire nuts instead of removing the stub and attaching directly to the WAGO.
When main power fails, the light comes on with reduced brightness that’s adequate for escape purposes. The battery is rated for 90 minutes; it’s NiCad, which is pretty ancient technology. More modern battery chemistry could provide better life.
This is a specialty fixture, meeting a specific need: redundant lighting in a power-fail situation. If you’ve got that need, this light’s a good choice—although there may be better options out there with an integrated test switch/light.
Great Light with a Smart Backup
This light was super easy to install in my drop ceiling. I love that I could pick the brightness and the color of the light — it made it perfect for my space. The fact that it has a battery backup for emergencies is a really nice bonus and gives me peace of mind. It’s a solid light and does exactly what I need!

Out of the box review-
Tested the light before mounting it, works just fine. Photos cannot capture the lumens or color so I’ll just give my two cents.
Full disclosure, I am not an electrician but have basic general contractor experience. You may want to consult with an electrician to ensure you are properly connecting this set up in compliance with local code. My area requires wiring to be run through electrical conduit but I don’t think it applies to this lighting being of a lower voltage. Nevertheless, I am running it to meet the code as if it is an incandescent wiring.
1) Gonna start with the brand- Lithonia Lighting has been around for over 75 years and has an excellent reputation. You typically see their products in commercial buildings and union jobs. I recommend just about anything made by Lithonia Lighting.
2) Battery backup lighting use- This particular light may not be necessary for residential use. The battery backup is used to meet code when power goes out and typically used as one in a lighting grid in large office spaces/warehouse settings for safe evacuation. Thats why you only see those settings in the description photos. I am using it in my basement and will have about a dozen Lithonia lights that are near identical to this one but do not have the battery backup.
3) Price- yes, this is an expensive light. You can purchase the identical Lithonia light without the IOTA ILB (integrated LED battery) unit for about $60-80. That is why only one of these is used for a specific area while the rest of the lights have no ILB unit. So if you want this for your home, rest assured, you probably only need to purchase one or two depending on the room(s) you want to illuminate in event of a power outage. Take note, these typically only get about 90 minutes of battery time depending on how many lumens you have it set for.
4) If you want a battery backup but do not want to spend the $$$, you can purchase an IOTA ILB-CP emergency driver and save about 50-100 bucks. But you have to ensure you can make the proper connection and know what you are doing. It may be easier to bight the bullet and spend the money on one like this.
5) I removed the back panel to expose the wiring and ensure I am tracing the proper connections. Glad I did so because one of the dead end wires (pink and purple) had a loose wire nut. I am not sure what these are for but am guessing they are for a dimmer hook up (as I stated, I am not an electrician but play one on TV). This would be the way to go if you are connecting armor clad flex conduit to your junction box on the light (photo).
Overall, with the MFR warranty and their reputation, if you are looking for a 2×2 LED ceiling tile light w/battery backup, I absolutely recommend this one.

Lithonia-brand lighting is well-known to me, and I invariably find it to be well designed, well made and durable. This 2×2′ lay-in troffer light offers one feature others do not. It comes with a built-in battery, so that when the power goes off, it remains on at a reduced level of illumination as long as the charge holds out. That can be a life-saver in any emergency situation. I also like the fact that you can choose between three levels of energy consumption AND three color temperatures to best suit the location and purpose you intend this fixture for. Good brand name, nice and simple service features, battery back up, and LONG service life in use. This is a great light!
Powerful LEDs!
Hard to tell but this is the warmest version, there is a bluer even brighter setting. It took me some time to install because In order to use the emergency battery feature it requires two separate lines, one that’s constant and one with a on off switch. I only had a normal one line in my room so I had to re route and disable the battery feature but it works as advertised. Great quality light way brighter than florescent bulbs I had before. The only thing I wish the diffuser plastic was thicker as this is too bright for my room even at the warmest setting. I’d say it requires a reasonable understanding of wiring to attempt it took me a few weeks to figure out why it wasn’t working. But it was my fault not the lights. It’s very lightweight and fit in my floating ceiling easily

Be sure to hook it up properly, but it isn't as complicated as it looks
When I first took it out of the box, it seemed a bit complicated. Looking at the instructions, it still seemed pretty complicated. The trick is that it isn’t so complicated after all.
Green, white, and black wires are brought out as expected for any light fixture. The only twist is the extra black wire with a label on it. That labeled wire wants an “always hot” wire. If you’re like me and want to switch the light on and off, that means that you need one more wire.
The best way to hook this up is to use some 14/3 Romex (with both red and black wires) and run it back from the switch. Since this is probably going in a drop ceiling, it isn’t so hard to pull out the old wire and put this in, if you don’t have it already. Then, you can run both the hot wire and the switched hot up to the light fixture. This is similar to how a ceiling fan would be hooked up.
The rest of the “stuff” is the LED/test button, already attached to a plate, and something called the “unit connector”. Once everything is hooked up properly and you’ve turned power back on, just hook the two dangling wires to each other, as they are connectorized and you’re good to go. I suspect that the unit connector disconnects the battery, as there was already some charge on it.
As with any light fixture of this type, you will probably want to run your wires into their junction box for a professional finish. In my case, I don’t mind having wire nuts that aren’t in a junction box. I’ll probably go back and “finish” this at some point and clean up my wiring job.
If it doesn’t already say in the listing, the backup battery is included and is inside the “ILB-CP10” module, so there is nothing more to do.
I did look inside their junction box, and they used some nice “Wago” style wire connectors inside and out. This appears to be well made and well designed. If you want an LED light fixture with an emergency backup battery, this is the real deal, and is worth the $260 price tag.
