Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersActually works well! Great value!
I was a bit dubious about this actually working, but it really did remain leak-proof. The exterior bottom of the cooler bag gets cold, but not wet. I am not a tall person or strong person, so putting it on when it was full was a bit of a challenge – I had to put it on a table and put it on from there. The chest connector at first seemed to strangle me but once I adjusted it, it was actually very comfortable. I usually use frozen water bottles instead of ice, and I was impressed at how long the water bottles stayed frozen. They were still mostly frozen 8 hours later, and I had to take them out of the bag to thaw out. I didn’t have it in full sun, so that likely helped. But it was still impressive. I put baby wipes and napkins in the top zipper portion, and opening the main compartment with the baby wipes made the top kind of flop hard but it held on. I do wish that the handles on the side were more like the handle in the back (between the shoulder straps – hard to see in the pictures), with the grip. When full, carrying it by the back handle is not feasible for me and the side handles are not as comfortable. I put a fleece throw blanket on the top under the bungee rope and it held perfectly. I was able to pack 6 frozen water bottles, 6 not-frozen water bottles, 6 – 8 capri suns, and sandwiches for 4 people in the main compartment. My friend wants the Yeti backpack and I’m way too frugal to spend that kind of money. After using the Hulongo bag multiple times, I am very happy with the value of my purchase. We’ve even just put it in the trunk of the car with ice packs to keep drinking water cold so after shopping / running errands, we can still have a nice cold beverage. Have to be honest, though, probably wouldn’t take it on long hikes because it would be too heavy for me personally to carry (because I can really load it up!). But short hikes or walks from the car to the picnic spot are perfectly reasonable. Or even leaving it in the car – it works just as well as my large cooler but doesn’t take up as much space. I really do love it!

Hulongo Insulated Cooler Backpack: Serious Capacity and Leak-Proof Performance for Outdoor Use
Cooler backpacks have carved out a distinct and useful space between the traditional hard cooler and the soft lunch bag, and the range of quality across this category is considerable. A bag that keeps food and drinks cold through a full day at the beach or a long fishing outing while staying genuinely comfortable to carry is a harder target to hit than the product listings suggest. Coming in with experience across several soft cooler formats, I looked at the Hulongo with particular attention to three things: insulation performance over time, structural integrity under real load, and whether the waterproofing holds up to the kind of condensation and incidental water exposure that outdoor use always produces.

The insulation is the headline feature and it earns the claim. The interior lining maintains cold temperatures effectively over the course of a full day outing when pre-chilled and loaded with ice packs, with the thick insulation walls noticeably outperforming thinner soft coolers in sustained temperature retention. The leak-proof liner does its job with no seepage to the exterior even with partially melted ice, which is the practical test that matters most in a bag you are carrying on your back. Capacity is generous and legitimately usable, with the main cooler compartment large enough to handle a meaningful amount of food and drink for two to four people. The exterior pockets add real utility, providing dry storage for items that need to stay separate from the cold compartment. The shoulder straps are padded and wide enough to distribute a loaded bag comfortably, and the back panel offers enough structure to keep the weight sitting properly against the spine rather than pulling away from the body.

    Pros

Insulation performance sustains cold temperatures effectively through a full day of outdoor use, noticeably outperforming soft coolers with thinner wall construction

Leak-proof interior liner contains melt water reliably with no seepage to exterior fabric or shoulder straps, even with extended ice contact

Main compartment capacity is large enough to provision two to four people for a day outing without overpacking or compromising ice retention

Exterior dry storage pockets are well-sized and positioned for separating non-refrigerated items, keeping the main compartment organized and accessible

Padded shoulder straps and structured back panel distribute loaded weight comfortably, making the bag practical to carry over longer distances than a handled soft cooler

    Cons

Fully loaded capacity adds up to meaningful weight, and the lack of a sternum or hip strap means longer carries over uneven terrain will be less comfortable than a hiking-style pack

The wide, boxy profile is optimized for capacity over packability, so it takes up considerable space when not in use and does not compress down for easy storage

Access to the main compartment requires opening the full top closure, which is less convenient for frequent retrieval compared to bags with a secondary side or front access point

The Hulongo cooler backpack is a capable, well-built option for anyone who wants the convenience of hands-free carrying without giving up the insulation performance that a serious day outing demands. It fits the camping, beach, and fishing use cases it targets without meaningful compromise on the features that matter most in those settings. For a reliable, leak-proof soft cooler that carries well and keeps things cold all day, this one is a strong and practical choice.

    Large insulated cooler backpack
This is a reliable and well-made insulated cooler backpack. The product description is accurate about its extra-large capacity. The main compartment is deep enough to easily fit items such as a milk carton or a large soda bottle, making it practical for carrying taller groceries.

I use this backpack for grocery shopping on foot, so the backpack design is much more comfortable than carrying a standard cooler bag. The insulated interior is especially useful during the hot summer months, helping keep refrigerated items cool on the walk home.

Overall, it is a sturdy, practical cooler backpack with plenty of space for everyday shopping.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our Users260 days of hard use, and I now need a new one
I bought 3 of these for the family, we use them every day, and I loved them! For about a year.

To get the basics out of the way..

It’s completely adjustable, so it’ll fit. It’s roomy enough to carry 2 full gallons of anything, with a little wiggle room.

It keeps everything cold (or hot if needed), looks and feels expensive, and is very sturdy. I have 2 in gray and 1 in black.

After about 6 months, on the first gray bag, one of the adjustable straps came off. A stitch unraveled or something, but no worries, easy fix with a large safety pin (or a needled and thread if you’re savvy).

After 9 months of daily use on the 2nd one (also gray), the zipper pull fell off the track of the zipper’s teeth…. several times. The first time we found the plastic was bent at the corner, and we were able to re-track it. By the 3rd time, it just won’t hold. I’m currently using safety pins to keep it closed, so it’s no longer a cooler.

The black one is still going strong, but it’s 1 year anniversary is coming up soon, we’ll see! In the meantime, I want another one.

Since I know how hard I am on my bags, I’ll be replacing the gray one again, but I might try my luck with a different color!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWorth the value and generous space.
Great bag happy with the purchase. Used it several times on a short day adventures and has been successful at keeping things cool. Unable to speak to how long things stay cool I have not taken it on the trail just for Day picnics for a few hours, but it’s been fine for that. Love the place to put plates and silverware in the front and the little pocket on top is great.

Definitely an excellent and very practical purchase.

Fantastic cooler bag and modern take picnic basket.
Edit: we took this on a picnic. Loved it. Front pack holds cutlery and napkins well. Nothing flying around. Kept the fruit and sandwiches cool in the summer heat with ice packs. Legit a great bag. Gets heavy to carry. We used a wagon.

    ——-

    Kept the

The insulated bag has improved from the original product by the same brand.

It is a modern day picnic basket or cooler bag.

For these bags, I do not use ice, but reusable cold packs or iced water bottles to keep things cool when using this. Ice tends to melt and leak even if fully sealed, can still get messy with liquid sloshing around the bag.

The external textile is water resistant cover that has been treated with a polyurethane coating.

The interior is a silver lining similar to a lunch bag [thicker though] with a foam insulation. The bottom of the large bag has a reinforced flat bottom to carry drinks and prevent sagging.

The zippers use a water resistant and dust proof feature zip up.

Top has a flat insulation compartment for sandwiches not boxed or easy to bruise fruit [ie bananas]. Keep it separate from the main compartment.

The bungee cord at the top cover holds the picnic blanket. The bungee is adjustable for tension.

Front zip up holds dishes and cutlery.

The back straps are reinforced with a nylon strip sewn. This is a weak point for many bags and the manufacturer took the time to add reinforced stitching with fabric strip.

I have to say this knocks a lot of competing picnic bags out of the water that I have seen in retail. This is a very large improvement from an older version from this brand.

Excellent for a trip to the beach or picnic.
