As a family who travels often, I was interested in looking for a blackout tent for over my 1 year old daughter’s travel crib. I came across this new product and was impressed with the affordable price and small carrying case. I decided to try it out and I’m so happy I did. I can’t recommend this travel tent enough.
Easy to set up: This blackout tent is light and sets up in minutes. No tools, no fuss, just pure, blissful darkness at your command. We own a beach chair with the same pull apart poles. It is a genius concept as it allows you to create a large tent frame from a compact bag of poles within a short amount of time. It fit perfectly over our Guava Lotus travel crib and will even fit over our toddler blowup mattress, when the time comes.
Watch the video: For the first use, I would recommend watching their video. It was super simple to set up but one quick video really helped me the first time around. After that, I was able to set it up and take it apart within minutes.
Completely darkens a hotel room: We recently put the blackout tent to the test in a hotel room. Let me tell you, it was an absolute lifesaver! My 1 year old slept soundly with a sound machine in the top pocket as my kids and I were all watching a movie in our hotel beds with headphones on.
Small and lightweight carrying case: This blackout tent comes with a handy carrying case, making it perfect for travel. It’s compact and lightweight, fitting easily into my suitcase which was very important to me.

This was a game changer during our hotel stay with baby. It fits over a pak n play or mini crib and blocks enough light to let baby sleep comfortably while adults can (quietly) go on about the evening. The air vents kept the tent cool enough (no fan needed with the AC on) and there’s a pocket at the top to strap your monitor. It’s so easy to set up and tuck away (without having to re assemble). So glad I got this for half the price of the competitor. Highly recommend!
Overall, I really like this blackout tent and think the design is much better than the other major competitor. I have the guava lotus travel crib and I like to use the zip down side to side lie nurse and then roll away, So it was non-negotiable for me to have a blackout tent that allowed me to use that side door function. If I have any complaint it’s that I wish the two doors were both on the same side, because sometimes I want to use both doors in the same night and not all rooms allow for easy access to all sides of the crib, but I suspect it just wasn’t possible design wise to put both of the doors on the same size.
Setting it up is not too bad, I was able to do it by myself with a baby underfoot and although it was mildly fussy it was possible. It would definitely be easier with two people, and the directions included are super clear.
I have not tested it in super warm conditions, but I kept a close eye on the temperature And I did not notice any concerning spikes in temperature inside the blackout tent.
It packs down pretty nice and small. And this will vary from baby to baby but my baby wasn’t thrown of thrown off by the tent at all. Overall, definitely recommend!

Overall, highly recommend. Perfect solution for vacations/room sharing. Provides blackout so you don’t have to worry about curtains, lights, etc. Super easy to set up. Super lightweight. Love that it has pockets for a camera and sound machine or fan. My baby never felt hot or sweaty when I would take him out. Very much worth the money. A couple things to note: the window/opening to put your baby through is not very high above the sides of the pack and play so you have to figure out a way to place your baby inside without waking them up and without hitting your head on the tent. Kinda annoying. Also the zipper could be a little quieter in my opinion. Positives outweigh the negatives and I will be recommending this to every parent I know!
Wish I had known about this with my first three kiddos! Easy to set up and complete black out. Had one of the poles snap when setting up and Hiccapop replaced it for me quickly and easily thanks to their lifetime warranty. SO grateful for all the good sleep our little gets while traveling! Worth every penny.
I waffled back and forth so much about whether or not I *needed* a blackout tent and whether I should get the Hiccapop or the Slumberpod. As our first trip EVER with our 6.5 month old approached, I started getting nervous. I ended up buying this while it was on sale and I have to say that it was an amazing decision!
The tent itself is a nice slick fabric, and easy to assemble (although putting together the poles is a little bit hilarious because of how long they are!) The clasps are super easy to snap on, and it didn’t take very long to put together/disassemble at all.
My girl’s nursery has blackout blinds but light still filters through, so she tends to fight her naps a little bit. She ended up sleeping so easily and so well on our trip because the tent allowed for full blackout!! I love that you have the option of a floor opening and a top level opening, and that there is a mesh pocket for your baby monitor/noise machine. I was a little concerned about airflow, but we didn’t seem to have any issues with it and it kept a moderate temperature that was just 1-2 degrees over the room.
I read that Hiccapop had a lifetime warranty, which is incredible. I love when companies stand by their products. I think this an incredible option and is great value for money. I can’t imagine that the Slumberpod is able to offer much more.
This is a travel staple for any parent who’s traveling with their littles!! I also have the slumberpod but found that this is actually A LOT easier to put together and the quality is amazing. It’s blackout but breathable and you cannot beat this price especially compared to its competitors. 10/10 would 100% recommend!
