Lets a lot of water move through and great quality
I was really happy with these hoses. They were a little more expensive than other ones, but I really feel like I got what I paid for. I use these for automatic watering in my gardens, and I’m really happy that they have the three-quarter inch internal diameter. My previous hose made the water at my sprinkler pretty weak. But this hose lets the full water pressure all the way through! They are very soft and rubbery, and they don’t hold onto kinks and don’t want to coil back up like other hoses. I’ve already bought three, and I came back to get another one. I have the four outlet beehive, automatic watering controller, and the combination is just perfect!
Excellent hose, very pleased !
Excellent hose , nice and light and flexible soft rubber but sturdy feeling, too. I’m surprised at the weight actually ! Not cumbersome at all . Fittings are expensive looking , sturdy . I bought the brown , 5/8, 50 feet. I liked it so much I bought the 75 foot one, too! Hasn’t kinked yet/- huge problem with my old (but only one year old ) stiff type hose .
I prefer hoses that are very flexible. Don’t care if they kink or not because I usually wind them on a hose reel anyway and that greatly reduces kinking since the hose comes off uncurled and this one lays flat just fine. Anyway this hose is marvelous. It’s very flexible yet not flimsy, ie it has a very solid construction. The fittings are indeed brass and substantial.
This is one of the best garden hoses I have ever seen.
It is heavy duty rubber, rather than cheap plastic.
It offer s full 3/4 inch diameter for high flow rate, rather than 5/8 inch reduced diameter which reduces flow rate.
It is remarkably lightweight for a rubber hose.
I personally appreciate the chocolate brown color, which when coiled up and stored in my yard looks much more natural and pleasing than the bright colors of most garden hoses.
It ships with one extra rubber grommet, and I found that it does not leak at all when securely connected to the water spigot (though to be fair, I always use a bit of plumber’s tape around the spigot threads to ensure a long lasting drip-free connection).
This hose also has an extensive coiled spring area on the spigot end to protect against excessive flexing.
Both ends appear to be either brass or heavily brass plated, and they have a good feel when connecting them.
Excellent quality hose!
Such good quality we went back for more! I’m tired of all the readily available “non kink” hoses that aren’t non-kink at all. These hoses were great, heavy duty, easy to maneuver and had good quality end connections for a leak proof fit. They aren’t light weight junk which is exactly what I was after.
Equal to hoses costing much more. This hose exceeded my expectations. The rubber is a much more durable material than typical hoses and should last many years. The rated burst strength is impressive. It is the best hose I own. 75 feet is a bit much at times but welcome for reaching the farthest corners of my yard and the front driveway. I have great pressure at the nozzle or sprinkler because of the larger inside diameter at 5/8 inch. The hose while being flexible for the most part, has an “aggressive coil memory” that at times has a mind of its own. Once you get the hose stretched out in the sun and energized with water it is very easy to handle. This is not a “light-weight sissy hose”, there is some weight and substance to it. It is more of an investment as I expect to use this hose for many seasons to come. I will be buying 2 additional for the back yard and large garden. This is the “real deal” hose. it is the best value I have found.
I have tried 2 – 3 other hose brands and have encountered problems. I have learned several things:
1. For the end fittings, aluminum is not suitable in any form. Solid brass or stainless steel only. There are apparently some newer hoses that use solid brass plated with nickel. This is probably desirable, but also probably not necessary, and you’ll need to use the apparent weight, when you hold the end of the hose in your hand, to judge whether it really is brass or stainless steel, as opposed to aluminum. Aluminum is not heavy enough to make the end of the hose feel heavier than the rest of the hose. Watch out for aluminum with an anodization layer that is dyed to look like brass. It has a reddish tint and is shinier than the solid brass used for hose end fittings (or anywhere except for military dress brass, so far as I know).
2. You do not want for both ends of the hose to swivel. You want for the female end that connects at the faucet to swivel, but so far as I know, all of them do. This swivel joint doesn’t leak because when you tighten it to the faucet, the washer is pressed between the faucet and the part of the hose just beyond the swivel. If the hose swivels at the other end, as some do, this is an open invitation for a leaky hose. I’ve had several like this at one time or another, and in every case it was only a matter of time before the swivel at that end of the hose became a leak. There is an advantage to having a comfortable grip at that end of the hose, but only if the fitting under the grip does not swivel (in which case the grip should not swivel).
3. There is no kink-free hose. If there were, it would be so stiff that you would not be able to use it for much. There is a tradeoff between stiffness and resistance to kinking. You want a hose that is flexible, but not so flexible that it kinks so often that you get fed up with it. You want a hose that has just as much flexibility as you need, no more. Fortunately, this is true for the vast majority of hoses. There are nevertheless hoses that are so cheaply made that they are far more flexible than you need, and they kink. This raises the question of how you can tell how flexible a hose will be, just from looking at the Amazon listing. In my experience, the three-ply hoses, with an inner and outer layer of rubber or rubbery plastic and a middle layer strengthening mesh, are somewhat more flexible than they need to be, and have a corresponding slight tendency to kink, no so severe that it is a problem. These hoses are okay, but I prefer the five-ply hoses, with two mesh layers separated by a third rubber/plastic layer in the middle. They are less prone to kink, but they are also slightly stiffer. Not a lot, but enough that you can tell the difference. And they are noticeably heavier. So there are tradeoffs, but in spite of the additional stiffness and the additional weight, I prefer the five-ply hose.
The Guitrees five-ply is an excellent hose. I bought a short one to use as a lead-in, and I liked so I bought the longer lengths that I needed to replace the horrible flexbilla (rhymes with …) hoses that I bought a few years ago. The flexbilla hoses have anodized aluminum fittings. The anodization layer wears off immediately, and if you leave it connected to your brass faucet, you end up with a horrible mess after a while, due to the softness and the high reactivity of aluminum. That brand of hose will also be ruined by mold if you allow it to come into contact with mold when it is wet. I have a couple that turned almost completely black due to the black mold. Disgusting. Don’t buy flexbilla.
