Built in AT commands, meaning you can modify the TTL or repair the IMEI 🙂 This thing is a powerhouse!! I’ve never seen download speeds like this come from a hotspot device. It’s small enough to fit in a pocket. Battery life is amazing.
Great desig
Compact size for travel. Easy to set up. I purchased this as backup internet in case of storm outage of main line. Works as expected although I could only get 4G connection at 30 Mb/s download speed at my house.
This is one of the best products I purchased from GL.iNet. I just had to plug in the sim card and it was easy as that. Probably going th be dependent on your area and carrier but it’s been a great experience so far. I had no connection issues and the wiregaurd vpn works great.
Exactly as advertised! I owned the previous generation, and can say everything I didn’t like about it, they fixed with this! Built in Ethernet without the need for a dongle with a special USB cable I promptly lost. My first use with this was setting up a network for a customer who had to move out of one space and in to another with no down time. It also required moving their gateway from the old office to the new, so without this downtime wouldn’t have been possible. I got a symmetric gigabit in connectivity with this plugged into the WAN port of the new network firewall and in about half a day went through over 20 gigabytes of date with the clients data requirements. It was flawless.
The MUDI 7 is an excellent travel router with fast Wi-Fi 7 performance and flexible 5G connectivity. The eSIM and dual-SIM support make it especially useful when traveling, and the touchscreen makes setup and everyday management much easier. It feels well designed, powerful, and convenient for staying connected securely on the go.
The only thing this is really missing is a second 5G modem so that it can stay connected to multiple cellular networks at the same time. The web UI is easy to use. The Wi-Fi is really stable. It’s easy to set up and also doubles is a battery pack, which is pretty cool. The display is a little cheap but functional. It’s probably the best hotspot on the market right now.
I’ve owned a lot of travel networking gear over the years, from older MiFi devices to travel routers that promised enterprise-level features but never quite delivered. The MUDI 7 is the first one I’ve used that genuinely feels like a professional networking appliance packaged into something small enough to throw into a backpack.
I purchased this primarily for work travel, airports, hotels, client sites, and international trips where reliable internet isn’t guaranteed. Having updated Wi-Fi 7, dual SIM capability, eSIM support, VPN functionality, and a built-in battery in one device is a game changer.
Sometimes I connect to hotel Wi-Fi and rebroadcast it securely to all my devices. Other times I simply insert a SIM card and have my own private network without relying on questionable public Wi-Fi. Switching between modes is quick, and the touchscreen makes basic management far easier than older travel routers that required logging into a web interface every time.
I also use it with aircraft WiFi to use multiple devices at once without having to pay for multiple connections.
Performance has exceeded my expectations. Speeds are excellent, latency has been low, and I’ve had no issues running Teams meetings, uploading large files, remote desktop sessions, VPN connections, or streaming video simultaneously. Battery life has also been impressive.
Security was another major selling point for me. The VPN options, firewall, and ability to isolate my devices from public networks is key whenever I’m traveling. As someone who frequently works with sensitive business information, that’s worth every penny.
The hardware itself is very solid but I’d buy a case. The touchscreen is bright and responsive, the menus are intuitive, and everything feels thoughtfully designed. It doesn’t feel like another generic hotspot and more like it feels an enterprise router.
This certainly isn’t the cheapest travel router on the market, but after using it, I understand why. You’re paying for flexibility, security, performance, and reliability. For frequent travelers, consultants, remote workers, photographers, livestreamers, or anyone who depends on having dependable internet away from home, it’s an outstanding investment.
I’ve been extremely impressed with this device.
I can’t directly compare devices beyond what’s on paper, but this device seems to be in direct competition with the Netgear Nighthawk M7. Not only is it $80 cheaper, it won’t siphon your personal data and prevent you from using VPN services like the Nighthawk. According to other reviews, you basically forgo any sense of privacy with the Netgear as they force you to use a proprietary protocol to access sites through and that breaks VPN functionality.
The GL.iNet comes with built-in support for both Wireguard and OpenVPN. GL.iNet has a reputation for being very open in their product design and not using proprietary services and not tracking any data. Many of their routers are easy to install custom firmware on and “hack” to your heart’s content. I have not done any such thing with this 5G modem, but I imagine it’s not hard.
2 SIM card slots and eSIM as well as WiFi repeating and LAN and USB physical connections… Runs Linux… This thing could potentially be a very useful addition to any IT tech’s bag as well as someone who works on the move and frequently switches locations or needs to separate their internet usage for obfuscation. Great for geeks, great for VAN life, great for Pen testing, great for covert operations, great for tinkering and learning.
Netgear spends some money to appear at the top of search results and to advertise their products. And they’re usually fast, but you cannot trust Netgear with your privacy and security. You can trust GL.iNet. They basically just give you the device with all the features unlocked and say, “it’s all in your hands now.”
But what makes their products great, is that they offer all this flexibility while JUST WORKING. They’re slick and functional products and they are so easy to setup for a layman who doesn’t want to tinker, while leaving all the bolts loose for someone who does. I just put in a T-mobile SIM and it connected right away. Default passwords are secure and random and easy to change. It’s almost idiot-proof. To have that much power and be so hardened against foolery is something really special and almost feels like a lost art in terms of tech products.
