Great light output, fragile set screws
I replaced an older solar fixture with this one, because the original one (different brand) never put out that much light, and the older it got, the less effective it became. I have another Gama Sonic light that works well, so I decided to give this one a try. It fits on a standard 3″ light pole and uses 4 small hex screws to hold it to the pole. Even though the hex screws are surrounded by a brass (?) fitting, I cracked 2 of the 4 just tightening them down – it was very easy to do, so be very careful. I’m taking off a star for this reason. I noted in other reviews, the same thing happened, so it’s obviously a design flaw that needs to be addressed.
Now as to light output, wow. This blows away the older fixture. The bulb produces a natural warm glow instead of the daylight white that the old fixture put out – which is preferred to me, as it looks more natural. It also lights up a considerably larger area than the old fixture. On the high setting, it lasts well into the night. It’s 4 a.m. as I write this, and it’s still glowing.
Had it not been for the set screw issue, this would easily be a 5 star product.

This post light is a very nice size and gives off an awesome amount of light at night. I had to set this up once it arrived and could not be happier with it, I was looking to replace an old wired light that hasn’t worked in a long time. the place I installed it does get full sun during the day so it gets ample charge. This is a really good light.
Bright but Brief: The Gama Sonic Imperial II Solar Post Ligh
When it comes to upgrading your outdoor lighting, the Gama Sonic Imperial II Bulb Post Light offers a blend of style and functionality. Right off the bat, the installation was pretty straightforward. The unit easily mounted onto the existing pole where my old light was situated. Just a word to the wise—when you’re tightening the grub screws, go easy on them. Over-tightening can lead to an unfortunate crack. I speak from experience. Thankfully, it’s more cosmetic than structural and a dab of epoxy sorted it out.
Now, let’s talk about the light output. This lamp is seriously bright, especially when set to its highest setting. However, that brings me to the not-so-bright side of things. Despite several full sunny days, the light has yet to make it through the night. By 6 a.m., it’s out cold. Of course, running it on a lower setting could solve this issue, but I really dig the high light output. It’s a trade-off you’ll have to consider.
One more thing to note: this unit uses an oddly sized bulb. While this isn’t a deal-breaker, it’s certainly something to keep in mind, especially if you’re particular about having easy-to-find replacement parts.
Overall, this solar post light is a solid addition to any yard, offering both elegance and brightness without the need for any wiring. Once you get past the peculiar bulb size and find the right setting for your needs, it’s an excellent choice for wireless outdoor lighting.
