The upper level – made of cork serves as a fruit bowl. The lower level – made of ceramic acts as a mini pantry to store potatoes, onions, beets and other root vegetables, as well as fruit that is not ripe enough. The natural properties of the cork help preserve the fruit and keeps it fresh for longer and keeps pesky fruit flies at bay. The ceramic body keeps the light out while the holes in the bowl help for air circulation, and together with the insulating properties of the cork lid, they help maintain a constant temperature, much like in an old school cellar. Emile Henry was officially presented with the 2022 Consumers’ Choice Kitchen Innovation Award. This two stage competition celebrates remarkable cooking and kitchen utensils. About Us
A young potter, Jacques Henry discovered the world of ceramics in a small workshop in Marcigny, a village in his native Burgundy. He developed a real passion for the art of Earth and Fire. When he was 20, he took off for a year with his 'National passport', and traveled the roads of France to meet other, more experienced, potters. Jugs, terrines and soup tureens came to life in his hands, and in a few years he created a workforce of around 20 people. Paul shared his father's passion and quickly exported his creations to Paris. Customers were enthusiastic, and pottery from La Maison Henry were soon to be found on all the best Parisian tables.
For over 150 years, Emile Henry has produced in France a large range of high quality ceramic cooking utensils. Our products are made from natural materials and have been designed and manufactured in France, in Southern Burgundy. Emile Henry provides all natural, durable, shock resistant elegance for the modern kitchen.
Functional and classy design. Potatoes, garlic and onions in the basement, bananas and apples on the first floor–cork floor by the way. It is a beautiful piece and it did bring some order to our kitchen island. The packaging was something else–appropriate for the protection of the bowl that is breakable. A nice addition to our kitchen: I was skeptical at first, but I must say I am now a fan.
Agonized over purchasing this because of the price, but absolutely love it! It’s a centerpiece in my kitchen and keeps fresh fruit and veg front and center. I love the deep blue color!
Lovely bowl and delivered super quickly
Really nice, high quality bowl which looks great in my kitchen. Holds loads of fruit on the top and easily holds 5 or more large potatoes in the bowl underneath. So pleased I bought it. It arrived very quickly and really well packaged.
Absolutely love this bowl. Tomatoes, onions and potatoes stay fresh so much longer, and putting fruit on top looks good. So glad I decided to splurge. The price might be on the high side, but not having to throw out produce is going to save so much money in the long run.
It’s very stable, hefty as in really good quality, the lid fits well and is easily removed even with things on top. Cleans well, too.
Excellent for root vegetables and frui
It takes a lot of space for the amount of food it holds, but is very good at storing/keeping fruit and vegetables such as root vegetables out of the direct light and fruit is allowed to ripen a bit on top. The cork has worked well to keep fruit flies away. It holds about 1.2-1.3kg of vegetables like potatoes or onions. Great for garlic too. Excellent quality!
It’s big, roomy. Very effective and holds a good amount of produce. My onions have been sprouting when kept in the lower bowl.
It’s quite stunning and is lovely on my counter. The blue is beautiful and it contrasts well with the cork color.
A beautiful bowl though too large for what I wanted. Doesn’t matter because it arrived in a box with no padding or packing materials and the bowl was broken in half. What a waste. So I got a refund. The 4 stars are for the intact version of this product. 🙂 Pay attention to the dimensions—this thing is enormous.
