A Very Good Desktop! So Satisfied!
Very happy with my purchase! Easy set up, it’s fast too! Nice specs that meet my expectations completely. I recommend this desktop for those seeking high quality on a budget. My old one did not have what is needed for a Windows 11 upgrade, so I got this one after many days of searching for a Windows 11 computer.
The Short Version: (Please skip this as it has spoilers if you prefer to read ‘The Long Version’.)
16 GB RAM, 1 TB M.2 SSD. I noticed a vibration from the CPU fan and contacted TekRefurbs and they are shipping me a new fan. Their response time was quick and they were eager to make sure I was a satisfied customer. I added 16 GB more RAM, a 2.5 inch SSD, a low-profile graphics card (supports up to 3 monitors), and a dual M.2 card along with 2 more M.2 SSDs. With the 2 DP ports and HDMI port on the motherboard, I ACTUALLY RAN 6 MONITORS (all at once) while streaming 6 different videos on YouTube. I picked this up to replace my DELL Optiplex 9020 which is too old for Windows 11. (As of now, Microsoft has stated that they will be ending their support for Win 10 by the end of 2024.) Running Crystal Disk Mark I got transfer rates of 1.7 GBps (read) and 1.1 GBps (write) on the SSD that came with the computer and 2 GBps (read) and 1.6 GBps (write) on the HP M.2 SSD I added. **UPDATE: I replaced one of my M.2 SSDs with a fanxiang S660 4TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD and now get the following speeds (read) 3.5 GBps and (write) 3.1 GBps. They actually make faster M.2s but they far exceed the capability of the motherboard.
I’m thrilled with both the computer and customer service couldn’t be happier with this purchase.
The Long Version:
I have purchased over 1,000 items from Amazon over the past decade and I only give reviews on the best (or the worst) items I have ordered. The renewed DELL Optiplex 7060 SFF I got from TekRefurbs is amazing and so is their customer support. (I had a little vibration with the CPU fan and I sent them a message about it, they replied the next business day and offered to send a replacement.) Awesome service!
With Microsoft stating that they will be ending their support for Windows 10 towards the end of 2024, I decided to replace my Optiplex 9020 SFF (not Win 11 compatible) now, rather than wait for a possible shortage of affordable/renewed Win 11 computers in the future. (As of now, the vast majority of people are still running Win 10.)
The model that I got was the 16 GB/ 1 TB version (other variants may be sold by different vendors). When I opened the box (and even the case) it looked like it was brand new, I couldn’t find even the smallest amount of dust anywhere. Included with the desktop was a free wireless mouse & keyboard and a few BT & WiFi dongles in addition to the built-in features from the motherboard itself. (Even without the dongles, I still have BT & WiFi connectivity.) **Models sold by TekRefurbs come with the built-in M.2 WiFi card which supports both 5 & 2.4 Ghz but for the fun of it I replaced it with the AX210 WiFi 6E Card M.2 NGFF and connected it to the 2 internal antennas.
Display Support: While some desktops (from other sellers) only have 2 Display Ports (DP) and either a VGA port (or missing the 3rd port), mine came with 2 DPs and an HDMI port. (Nice touch!) While being able to connect to 3 monitors (off of the motherboard) is nice, I added an inexpensive VisionTek Products Radeon 6350 SFF 1GB DDR3 3M DMS59 with 2X DVI-I to VGA Adapter Graphics Card that adds support for an additional 3 monitors AND I RAN A TOTAL OF 6 MONITORS AT ONCE while streaming different videos on each monitor. Granted, I’m not a gamer so I’m not concerned with Frames Per Second (FPS) but it did actually work (I normally just run 3 monitors stacked vertically — one on top of each other).
Storage Capacity (hard drives): This model, like most of the DELL SFF cases have 3 SATA ports and the newer models have a space for an M.2 SSD. The model I purchased came with a 1 GB M.2 SSD and the DVD drive and the cables were provided to connect a second hard drive as well. There is room for a 3.5 inch hard drive or you can get an adapter to mount the smaller 2.5 inch drive if you wish (there are adapters that can hold up to three 2.5 inch drives in a single 3.5 inch slot). But why settle for just one additional hard drive when you can have a total of FOUR HARD DRIVES? Thanks to the Dual M.2 PCIE Adapter for SATA or PCIE NVMe SSD with Advanced Heat Sink Solution,M.2 SSD NVME (m Key) and SATA (b Key) 22110 2280 2260 2242 2230 to PCI-e x 4 Host Controller Expansion Card, you can have up to 3 M.2 SSDs plus one 2.5 inch SSD. ***You can also get the M.2 NVME to PCIe 3.0 x4 Adapter with Aluminum Heatsink Solution (single M.2 slot) and add up to two additional 2.5 inch SSDs. I actually recommend getting this card instead of the one I purchased because the second M.2 slot has to connect to one of the SATA ports from the motherboard so the transfer speed is the same as if you connected a 2.5 inch SSD (which are cheaper). Running Crystal Disk Mark I got transfer rates of 1.7 GBps (read) and 1.1 GBps (write) on the M.2 SSD that came with the computer and 2 GBps (read) and 1.6 GBps (write) on the HP M.2 SSD I added.
RAM: The model I purchased came with 16 GB RAM (two 8 GB chips) which was nice because I added an additional 16 GB RAM for a small price. (32 GB is more than enough RAM for most applications.)
Free Extras: The extra dongles, mouse and keyboard are nice touches and pretty good quality as well. I admit that I haven’t tested them because I used a lighted keyboard (wired) and Logitech Trackball.
Summary: Whether you are using the computer ‘as is’ or you want to upgrade it, this is an excellent choice for an affordable and (still) powerful system that will carry you through the Windows 11 lifespan (and probably beyond). Despite this being the Small Form Factor (SFF) model, there is room to add a (low profile) graphics card, USB-C 3.2 card, M.2 card or whatever you wish. (Just be mindful of the power requirements of the graphics cards – this comes with a 200 watt power supply.)
No problems with the Dell computer. I realize AmazonWho ever trying to save a buck, but that STG SKYTECH GLOBAL Keyboard / Mouse must have cost someone $.60 OR LESS to produce. They are CHEAP. keyboard died after a few days.
Although I’m Old, I’ve had to migrate FROM WINDOWS 7to windows 11, I REALLY REALLY HATE WIN 11 WITH A PASHON!
When purchasing refurbished equipment buy a warranty protection.
The 1st thing I like to say is that I was very happy with this Dell PC. I purchase this unit back in April 2025. Now I read everything that’s required to know about this PC until I was satisfied that the research I did was very clear to me, so I made the purchase. And also, during my research, I decided to purchase this refurbished unit. and I also concluded that ordering this PC could come with issues as well. So, I decided to order from Amazon 3-year PC Warranty Protection with Asurion and I’m very HAPPY that I did. Exactly 1 YEAR later this May my system broke down. It first began with my external speakers losing sound with right channel. After a few weeks, the system would start and reboot and input my code was fine, then when you decided to open any program or email, the system would freeze without control of keyboard or mouse. Big disappointment. I call Amazon and Asurion to discuss the next step, well Asurion Stepped up and contacted me, I received the equipment to send my PC to them to repair. So, I thanked God I had Asurion to protect my system. I sent my PC today via UPS. Thank fully there was no charge for Sending or Receiving my PC. For now, I’ll just pray and wait. The Dell OptiPlex 7060 w/Intell 8th Gen i7-8700 6 Core is an amazing machine.
i couldn’t believe how small this tower is when i unboxed it. took a little bit of time for the system to do all the updates, but other that that setup was a breeze and no issues out if the box. my only gripe is that i wish it was clear that the machine doesn’t use hdmi video outputs and that you need adapters for your hdmi monitors. the system came with 1 of these adapters but i had to order another one ($7) for my 2nd monitor. maybe im out of the “tech loop” and this is common knowledge? but my old tower video board had hdmi output so i was expecting the same in w this new machine. so that was kind of annoying that i wasn’t able to get it all setup exactly the way i wanted with my dual monitors and have to wait until that 2nd adapter plug arrived the next day.
other than that, the machine is lightning fast especially compared to my old one that was on its last leg and was painstakingly slow to even do the simplest task.
i’ll report and update this review as time goes on and hopefully there’s no issues in the immediate future
and yes, the included keyboard and mouse are pretty poor quality but functional- they worked immediately with no issues or setup required- simply plug in the usb dongles to the tower, you do need a single AA battery and a single AAA battery so luckily i keep those on hand.
best buy did have the same tower/refurbished for $30 less but ordering from amazon is much easier imo /as are returns should any issues have happened
Worked out perfect for me. Computer was almost new in super clean condition. Everything fired up as expected but I noticed that the SSD was SATA not NVMe. I contacted the seller and they exchanged it for a NVMe. Great customer support. I would not hesitate to recommend this Optiplex for anyone looking for a reliable but inexpensive PC.
It included a brand new keyboard and mouse. I decided to swap the keyboard for a better one, but the included one is just fine.
