I got this to replace the junky plastic Venetian blinds in my garage with something that could provide privacy from people walking by, but also also let light into the garage if I wanted to.
Installation was super easy, but it definitely does require tools. I opted to install it in outside mount, so that the fabric reached a few inches past the edges on each side, to block anyone from seeing into my garage through the sides of the frame. However, I didn’t want to drill into the wood window frame, which the instructions suggested (this also requires a tool). I’m happy to report, the brackets and shade valance have sufficient depth to clear past the front of the window in an outside mount on their own. Four anchors, and the valance popped right into the brackets. Easy!
The fabric is indeed a full blackout fabric. I had expected a little openness to allow a little bit of light in, based on the product photos, but I think I underestimated it. There’s no light transmittance at all through the fabric.
Moving the fabric up and down takes no effort, and the fabric catches and stays right where you let it go. If you have a tall window frame, you’ll need a ladder to reach the top handle to bring it back all the way up to the top.

The shade seems to be well built and I don’t have any worries of it falling apart. I must say the Top Down Bottom Up stye of shade is new to me. I like the flexibility where you can let a little light in from the top or bottom depending on what you need and what kind of privacy you may want.
Installation: Here is where we lose a star. It wasn’t particularly difficult, but the instructions were just pictures with minimal help otherwise. Given that this was my first time installing this type of shade, I really would have liked a little more direction to give me that warm-and-toasty feeling that I was doing it right and it wasn’t going to fall down in the middle of the night. Fortunately, all the hardware was there and it did get installed.
Overall, this looks like it’s going to work for us. I included a picture showing the shade in action. Yes, there was a flash on the camera so it’s really not letting in the round circle of light. Also, if you look closely, you’ll see I haven’t pulled the original shade yet, but it’ll be coming down soon now that I know this is working out.

The cellular design works better than slats as it prevents more light from coming in, and the tight and accurate sizing prevents light from coming around the edges. The hardware is sturdy and durable. Good value for the money.
