I’m a professional artist and I’ve recently been asked to create a miniature village diorama installation for an outdoor event at a local tourist destination, and I needed something durable enough to handle the elements for several weeks. This worked perfectly for what I’m creating.
The material looks and feels very realistic, with a beautiful natural straw color. It’s attached to a sturdy backing, which made it easy to cut into sections and apply exactly where I needed it. I was also pleasantly surprised that there was no strong or odd odor.
You do lose a little bit of the straw if you run your fingers through it, but that’s completely normal for this type of material and didn’t affect usability at all.
There’s a generous amount in the roll for craft or artistic projects like mine. If you’re planning to actually cover a roof, just be aware you’ll likely need at least two rolls—even for a smaller area.
Bonus: I even reused the bag it came in, which was a nice extra.

Thick & Full; Quality, Durable Thatch Grass for my Tiki Bar! I received my Pithsdp Thatch Grass Roll last week, finally got a chance to fluff it out, and put it up on my Patio over our bar. I have been wanting to get our tiki bar in the patio a thatch grass roof, and found exactly what I what I was looking for.
First, I wanted to fluff out the roll, so I sprayed it, combed through it, and let it sit for a few nights. A big difference with the fullness, looks amazing.
I had to cut the thatch grass to the measurements of the overhead above the bar, so I trimmed
the thatch roll down. The non-slip rubber backing helped with the slipping while I was securing it; It went up quite nicely, and secured easily.
I love the texture of it, feels so real and thick. Other great features that made me choose this thatch grass is it is; waterproof and weather resistant to keep ut from getting ruined easily.
This thatch is made of very good quality materials besides shedding a bit when I was cutting. It seems like it will last a long time being durable. I am so pleased I found this for my tiki bar.
Big roll of yellow grass I’ve been using this on the countertop for our Taco Tuesdays and it’s a really nice touch. The grass itself is fluffy and made of a plastic type material so it’s easy to clean. The overall quality is very good and I really like how it looks.

This weather-resistant, washable (spray off with the garden hose), is – I think – my perfect solution. I’m going to drape this across those old straw bales with a layer of wooden pallets in-between.
