I really like this Owala FreeSip mug. The insulated stainless steel construction keeps drinks cold for hours, and the built-in straw is convenient and easy to use. The side handle makes it comfortable to carry, and the leak-proof lid works exactly as advertised.
Unfortunately, my mug arrived with some damage, which was disappointing and prevented me from giving it a full 5 stars. Aside from that issue, the quality, functionality, and design are excellent. Had it arrived in perfect condition, it would have been a perfect purchase. I had to return it.

This tumbler is such a “best of both worlds” waterbottle!
I have an owala free sip water bottle and I have their old tumblers with the straw. The freesip waterbottle doesnt fit in my car’s cupholder and after all this fear-mongering around “smokers lines” from straw usage, I decided to try Owala’s freesip tumbler.
This combines the portability of a tumbler with the handle and easy fit into cup holders, and it still has the leak proof lock and special shaped spout that the freesip bottles have that is supposed to reduce the likelihood of smokers lines. It really is just as leak and spill proof as the free sip waterborne.
You can decide if you want it to be a swig option or using the straw internally to have it be a sip option. Its honestly such a good idea they had to combine their best selling models into one perfect hybrid.
It keeps my ice all day, which most of these brands at this point will do. I dont use these style owala tumblers for hot liquids since the straw is plastic, they have other tumblers that are meant for hot liquids.
Its seems to be of the same durability as all owala products, which is always very decent, but maybe not top tier. Owala’s stainless steel is thinner and does seem to dent and scratch easier than Stanley and Brumate, but as long as you use a silicone boot on the bottom and avoid dropping it, you should be fine. The paint on my other owala products did chip over time of being washed in the dishwasher on the top rack. So I am going to avoid the dishwasher for this one and wash the bottle by hand. I will only put the lid and straw through the dishwasher.
Overall, I love it and I would like to buy more colors. I do wish they would stop making the straws plastic though. But thats just what owala does. Brumate uses stainless steel straws, but they dont offer a cool design like this one in a tumbler form.
My partner loves this water bottle and uses it every day. It keeps hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold all day, and they take it everywhere they go. Even after being dropped, washed, and going through daily wear and tear, it still looks great with no signs of damage. The color has held up really well, and after months of daily use, it’s still in great shape.
We also haven’t had any issues with it leaking. It’s easy to clean and maintain, and the shape fits pretty much every cup holder we have. The locking lid is a great feature since it prevents it from accidentally opening, and having the straw and drinking spout in one compartment makes it easy to toss in a bag and carry around all day.
It’s probably the best water bottle/tumbler we’ve owned and made us instant fans of the brand.
I have a 32oz Owala bottle and was looking for something bigger. I came across this 40oz bottle with a handle and got excited. When I noticed the bottom of the bottle tapered down and was slimmer, I was thrilled. It now fits in my vehicle cup holder and will be much easier to carry around. It’s made with the same durable material and appears as leak proof as my other bottle. I love the straw inside and the spring on the push button opener seems to be of better quality. Overall it will be so much easier to use.
I bought this cup along with a couple of other kinds to see which I liked best. To be honest, I really didn’t expect to like it bc I’ve always uses Contigo. But, since it was on a lightning deal I added it to my cart.
To my complete surprise I LOVE THIS TUMBLER!!
-It is narrow enough to fit in any cupholder, even with a silicone sleave on it
-It has a wide opening that makes filling with ice easy
-It stays super cold – I only have to fill it with ice once a day eventhough I refill my water four or five times a day
-It holds lots of water so I don’t have to refill it as often as the Contigo bottles I used to use
-The handle is sturdy and the seal is good; I’ve already dropped it a couple times but it still keeps my water cold and has not leaked at all
-I love the way the mouth piece feels & the large straw opening, which makes it great for cleaning and taking medication.
It is definitely the best tumbler I’ve ever had.
Overview / First Impressions
I LOVE this water bottle. In fact, I love it so much that after using mine for a short time, I immediately ordered two more for my kids. That’s usually the biggest compliment I can give a product.
I had been using another very popular brand, and while it kept drinks cold extremely well, I was constantly replacing lids that never seemed to work quite right. This Owala has completely won me over.
The FreeSip Design is Brilliant
The FreeSip lid is what makes this bottle stand out.
I absolutely love that it has a built-in straw, but you’re not actually drinking through a traditional straw. Instead, you sip comfortably from the mouthpiece itself. And if you’re really thirsty? Simply tilt the bottle back and take a big gulp from that same opening.
It’s honestly one of those designs that makes you wonder why every water bottle isn’t made this way.
The best part? The water flows so easily. There’s no struggling to get a drink or feeling like you’re trying to suck a milkshake through a tiny straw. It just works perfectly every single time.
Leak-Proof? Absolutely.
Another feature I absolutely love is the push-button lid.
With one press, the protective cover pops open, keeping the drinking spout clean when you’re not using it. Better yet, it also locks, so you don’t have to worry about it accidentally opening inside a bag.
And yes… I tested it.
I turned it upside down expecting at least a few drops.
Nothing.
Not a single leak. That’s a huge win in my book.

Considering the thoughtful design, leak-proof construction, and how enjoyable it makes drinking water, I think it’s worth every penny.
When a product is so good that you immediately buy more for your family, that says a lot.
Recommendation & Final Thoughts
Overall, I’d give this 10 out of 5 if I could. The FreeSip design is genius, the push-button locking lid is fantastic, it’s completely leak-proof, comfortable to carry, and incredibly easy to drink from. I’ve owned several insulated water bottles over the years, and this one has easily become my favorite.
If you’re debating between this and another popular brand, I’d choose the Owala again without hesitation. It’s officially my new water buddy, and it goes with me everywhere.
This is one of the first water bottles that actually keeps ice all day so your water is ice cold. Love that I also have to use less ice.
