Gilmore Girls: The Series [Blu-ray]
Gilmore Girls: The Series [Blu-ray]
In Stars Hollow, a charming, slightly off-center town known for green lawns, clapboard houses, and enough quirky characters to fill every hayride, parade and picnic for miles, headstrong 32-y.o. Lorelai Gilmore carves out a comfortable, warm, caffeinated life for herself and her equally willful teen daughter Rory. When Rory’s attention turns from dreams of private school and Harvard to boys and adolescent self-reliance, single mom Lorelai begins noticing more of her own rebellious youth in Rory.

Widescreen HD high bitrate upgrade for Stars Hollow!
I preordered this blu-ray set and I can confirm it is widescreen, not full screen: In other words the image uses your entire modern TV’s screen just like the version of Gilmore Girls on Netflix. I was so happy to see this because the high definition transfer on this set, from what I’ve watched so far, is truly wonderful.
I don’t think there are any new special features or commentaries over what was on the DVDs, sadly, but the expanded aspect ratio, the HD image, higher bitrate, and pride of ownership are worth it if you’re a fan of the show.
For long term care of the discs, like most other packages, I’d recommend sleeving the discs in felt comfort sleeves like what Tarifold sells and setting yourself up a “shoebox library”. It’s nearly impossible to manage discs in the terrible packaging that is provided without eventually damaging them, but outside of that (which is common across many sets), this is a great purchase, very happy.
Perfect Series, Terrible Packaging
I’ve been waiting for this for decades. The show is five stars and getting it on Blu-ray is five stars, but Amazon shipping a $139 box set in their “barely” padded envelopes ensures all boxes have that “been on the shelf and handled for weeks” banged in corners look. Bummer. Yay high fidelity Gilmore Girls and Stars Hallow. Boo for terrible and minimal Amazon packaging.
I give the series a 5 star rating. I would like to know if there are any bonus features. Still, the only reason I’m giving this early review is so I can give you a heads up to those that are tempted to click on the “Frequently bought together” button. This button allows you to purchase “Gilmore Girls: The Series” with “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.” However, if you read the “Gilmore Girls: The Series” contents, it already includes “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.” So, DON’T CLICK THAT BUTTON!!!
