Great Support for Elderly Gardeners
Perfect garden kneeler and seat for seniors.
I purchased this for my 80-year-old mom who loves gardening. It solves her problem of struggling to stand up after kneeling. The thick foam padding cushions her knees while weeding and planting. The side handles let her rise easily with no help needed.
Very minimal assembly. Seat is comfortable and feels sturdy.
The only assembly required with this bench is the handles, which I did have a little trouble getting to connect, but now that they’re on, they are secure. I had it ready to use in under 5 minutes. I like that both sides of the seat are padded, so there’s really no fussing with the bench once you take it out of the box aside from flipping it upright to sit or upside down to kneel.
I have really hard and rocky ground where I live, so kneeling down to garden really puts a strain on my knees. This bench is very comfortable and it feels sturdy under my weight.
Im really happy to have it and use it just about anytime I need to do yard work.
This garden seat is very helpful for garden work. I used to bend down & work in the garden, then suffer through back pain. Now, there is no more suffering. This tool is very helpful for anyone who do gardening.
There is a strange design flaw on this that I don’t quite understand and I was hoping that it wouldn’t be the case with this combo of kneeling bench or sitting bench for gardening.
I don’t know how much gardening you could do if you use this as a sitting bench because you’re so far away from the ground. I got this as a kneeling bench because you need to be pretty close to the ground when you do the level of weeding and feeding and adding soil or soil amendments and mulch to your flowers and trees as I do.
This is the design flaw: The padding is much thicker on the bench side, where you don’t need much padding, and it’s much thinner on the kneeling side, where you really do need a lot of padding if you’re going to spend any amount of time there on your knees and if you’re doing a good job, you will be spending a lot of time on your knees when gardening.
I bought a cheap kneeling pad for gardening a couple of years ago and I was hoping to be able to toss it after getting this kneeling bench but that pad is actually thicker than the kneeling pad portion on this. I already own a seated and kneeling gardening bench that I’ve only used on the kneeling side but I didn’t think that one had enough padding at the knees either so I got this one instead. It’s pretty much exactly the same. I will say that I do get up more gracefully using either of the kneeling benches than on just my plain kneeling pad because of the handles. But this and my other kneeling pad bench will not help alleviate knee pain from spending a long time on your knees. I just tested this out briefly and this kneeling pad creaked a lot the first time I used it so I’m not sure about its durability at this point.
The instructions arrived torn as they were taped to the inside of the box. It’s not a great idea to attach paper to tape. The instructions also said to use a rubber mallet to attach the handles. Although I have three extremely complete and large tool sets, I do not own a rubber mallet and I have been spoiled by other Amazon gardening purchases that come with all the tools needed necessary to assemble this. Since this did not, I used my lightest weight regular hammer and of course it made a bunch of marks and little dents on all four corners where the handles are attached.
My favorite part of this are the pockets that you slide over the handles with pockets for your gardening tools. I usually wear one of my gardening aprons that also have a lot of pockets so I didn’t need this but I think that’s a nice addition.
I think this would be better if they switched the pads so that the kneeling side had extra padding. I took a couple pictures so you could see the difference in the amount of padding and it may not look like a ton — even though it does to me — you can really feel the difference that not enough knee padding makes.
It was easy to assemble except for the handles.
Garden Kneeler & Seat That Actually Makes a Difference (Sturdy, Simple, and a Great Value)
If you spend a lot of time working in flower beds or vegetable gardens, you know how quickly kneeling takes a toll. I picked up this RIFPOD garden kneeler and seat mainly to give my knees a break, and it’s turned out to be one of those simple tools that makes a noticeable difference.
Right out of the box, it felt better than expected for the price. Setup is straightforward—fold out the legs and insert the handles. The handles do need a bit of force to fully seat (a rubber mallet helps), but once they’re in, everything feels solid and secure. It can be used either as a seat or flipped over as a kneeling bench, which is a really practical design.
The padding is firm rather than soft, which I actually prefer. The kneeling side has a textured, non-slip surface, and the seat side is a dense EVA-type foam that holds its shape. The cushion size (about 14″ x 9.5″) and height (~18″) worked well for me and felt stable for both sitting and kneeling.
The included tool bags are more useful than I expected. They slide easily over the handles and hold a good number of hand tools, which cuts down on trips back and forth. That alone saves time when you’re in the middle of planting or weeding.
The metal frame feels sturdy for regular garden use, and the added bottom extension supports help with balance when sitting, though I didn’t find myself needing them much. It also folds flat for storage, but I usually leave it set up with tools in the pockets so it’s ready to go.
At under $18 (at the time of review), this is a surprisingly good value. Similar kneeler benches I’ve looked at cost significantly more, and this one covers the basics really well without feeling flimsy.
Takeaway:
A simple, well-designed garden kneeler/seat that reduces strain, keeps tools within reach, and delivers solid value for the price.
