230V DPST switch, easy to install, seems very well made, connections are different from T104M
After using my original (Made in USA) pair Intermatic T104M pool pump & cleaner timers for about 15 years, they both failed within a single season. I replaced them with the Made in Mexico OEM replacements that are now available, 3 times for the pump & 2 times for the cleaner (5 total) over the next 6-7 years. Honestly, I was seriously frustrated with the quality of the new replacements. On all of them, it was the small drive motor that gave out, and all but 1 was out of warranty. And these OEM timers are not priced cheap! I was about to invest in a complete new timer system, when I came across this DEWENWILS T104M 24-Hour Mechanical Timer Switch which claimed to be compatible with the Intermatic box.

After receiving the unit, I was eager to install it. It was well packed in a foam insert inside the box and included 3 different mounting brackets to make it compatible with different timer boxes. It also includes an adhesive label for sticking on the inside lid of the box with instructions and hookup schematic, a plastic cover for the electrical hookup area, 2 sets each of “on” and “off” trippers and the necessary screws/nuts. I used the bracket labeled “I” and even though it isn’t identical to the OEM it fit into the box mount perfectly and snapped right into place. I was pleased by the apparent build quality and that it uses an AC Synchronous motor instead of the weak Intermatic one.

One thing I found different is the timer face actually spins in the opposite direction and so the timing marks are mirrored. Also, the method of setting the time is to just basically turn the dial face in a counter clockwise direction. The “time of day” is at roughly 5 o’clock indicated on the lower switch box. So unlike the Intermatic, there is no spring loaded “pull out and turn” to align with the fixed pointer, you essentially just spin it into place (counterclockwise).

The biggest difference I found is that the Intermatic uses a Line 1 + Line 2 on the left then Load 1 + Load 2 on the right. The Dewenwils timer uses a Line 1 + Load 1 on the left and Line 2 + Load 2 on the right. DO NOT ASSUME THAT IT IS LIKE FOR LIKE! If you are installing it yourself (and you really should! It was a piece of cake!) just make sure to look at the differences in the hookup. I included a photo of the two hookup configs as illustrated on the adhesive labels.

As I had no issues hooking it up, I am very pleased with the product so far. It appears to be well thought out and made of quality materials. I like the idea of the enclosed AC Synchronous motor, instead of the little motor with the gearbox that is prone to failure. I think Intermatic quality has gone down hill and it is ridiculous how terrible their latest timers have been in my experience. Assuming this lasts, I will definitely be replacing my other Intermatic timer with one of these.
