There is a point in every homeowner’s life when a simple project somehow turns into buying power tools. This compressor and brad nailer combo feels like it was designed specifically for that moment. One minute you are hanging trim, and the next you are looking around the house for things that might benefit from being nailed together.
The compressor arrives with just about everything needed to get started. The oil free design keeps maintenance simple, and the pancake style tank is compact enough to move around without feeling like you are hauling construction equipment from room to room.
Performance is solid for trim work, small woodworking projects, and general household tasks. The brad nailer fires consistently, and the compressor recovers quickly enough that you are not constantly waiting for pressure to build back up. It is not a commercial jobsite monster, but that is not what it is trying to be.
One thing to know going in: like most pancake compressors, it is loud. Not “I should call the authorities” loud, but loud enough that everyone in the house will know you have started a project whether they wanted to or not.

If you are looking for an easy entry into air tools, this kit covers a lot of ground. Reliable, capable, and just dangerous enough to convince you that crown molding in three more rooms sounds like a great weekend project.
The quality you'd expec
This unit is replacing my other Craftsman pancake compressor that I believe was about 10 years old and still worked like a champ but was showing signs of age.
Out of the box this one is a nice upgrade for my older one as the components are just better made and designed a little bit better. I especially love that it has the dual connections so I don’t have to flip back between tools when working on a job.
From a performance standpoint, the compressor fired up as you would expect it filled up pretty quickly and I did leave it with pressure in it overnight and it lost around 25 psi. I did check all of my connections and tested for leaks and couldn’t find any so not sure where that’s coming from. That really is a non-issue for me because I do not leave it with pressure in it. I was kind of hoping it would be quieter than my old one and it isn’t really. I think pancake compressors are just loud.
It does come with a decent air cable, although I will probably be using my own just because I need more distance but the one that it comes with is adequate.
The nailer that it comes with is a nice and has the quality that you would expect from a Craftsman product.
Overall, the bundle’s really nice and it will certainly come to Great use. The only reason I think I’m knocking off the star here is for me the price point is a little high.
There are multiple options out there to either buy separately or buy in a pack with three different types of nailers for just a few dollars more.
It’s not a horrible deal and certainly wouldn’t bat my eye at buying it, but just from a price point I’d shop around.
Quality is what you expect from Craftsman. I’ve had them all my life and I’ll probably continue that way as I always find the products well made and long lasting. You certainly won’t be disappointed in this and it’s certainly ready for work.

OVERVIEW:
This Craftsman 6-gallon pancake air compressor kit is an excellent, reliable setup for a small DIY garage or as a portable accessory compressor for bigger jobs. It delivers up to 150 PSI maximum pressure with a 1.0 horsepower motor and comes bundled with an assortment of starter tools, including an 18-gauge brad nailer.
PERFORMANCE AND OPERATION:
During testing, the compressor ran perfectly. Right out of the box, the pressure started coming up quickly, and the built-in regulator worked exactly as it should. Because I was standing right beside it during the initial run, it was slightly noisy, but that is typical for oil-free pancake models in this class.
ACCESSORIES AND QUICK CONNECTS:
The kit includes a helpful accessory pack featuring a blow gun, an inflator, and quick-connect fittings. One thing to note is that the included air hose does not come with the quick-connect couplers pre-installed. You will need to attach them yourself using the provided Teflon tape to ensure a tight, leak-free seal.
The quick-connect fittings themselves are high quality. They feature a bright chrome finish rather than cheap pot metal, and they snap in and click off very smoothly with minimal effort.
BRAD NAILER:
A major bonus with this kit is the included 2-inch, 18-gauge brad nailer. It accommodates fasteners ranging from 5/8-inch up to a maximum length of 2 inches. The 2-inch capacity is perfect since that is the maximum length usually required for 18-gauge applications, and all shorter lengths fit and feed flawlessly.
The nailer feels well-made in the hand with smooth, finished edges and no rough spots. It features a convenient depth-adjustment thumbwheel right near the nose. Additionally, the magazine locking mechanism is well-designed, allowing you to easily click it open and shut with just one hand when loading or checking nails.
CONCLUSION:
I don’t see anything wrong with this air compressor setup. It provides everything a homeowner or hobbyist needs to get started right away, making it a highly practical addition to any small workspace.
Perfect for Home Projects and Repairs
I’ve really come to trust the Craftsman name over the years, and this pancake air compressor and nail gun setup definitely holds up to that reputation. We had been on the fence about getting a compressor for a long time, but with some upcoming home repairs, it just made sense to finally invest. It’s one of those tools you don’t realize you needed until you have it—and now I’m glad we do.
Setup was straightforward, and the performance has been solid right out of the gate. The compressor builds pressure quickly and keeps up well with our home projects. The nail gun accessory has already saved us a ton of time compared to hand nailing, especially on trim work and smaller repairs around the house. It feels reliable and consistent, which is exactly what I want when I’m mid-project and don’t want surprises.
It’s also a nice compact unit for a pancake style compressor—easy to move, not overly bulky, and still delivers plenty of power for what we need. The hose length has worked well for our projects so far, giving enough reach without feeling restrictive. The noise level is what you’d expect, but nothing out of the ordinary for this type of tool. Overall, it feels like a dependable setup that’s going to earn its keep for years.
Everything except the nails
This is a good bundle to get someone started with pneumatic nailers. Everything you need is here. First, the compressor. It’s a fairly typical pancake compressor in terms of size which is 6 gallons, air volume at 2.6 SCFM @ 90 PSI with a maximum of 150 PSI. The dials are large and show tank and tool pressure. There’s a regulator knob and a couple couplers. It’s just me, so I don’t need one for someone else, but it allows you to leave a couple tools connected without having to swap them in and out.
The nailer is good, and a brad nailer is a perfect tool to use a pancake compressor with. You don’t need anything larger and for a brad nailer. No nails were included, so you ought to pick up some 18GA nails. If you don’t know what you’re going to need or how often you’re going to use it, start with an assortment until you sort out what size you’re going to use most.
The hose is a good length, and I don’t know what exactly it’s made from, but think it might be polyethylene. It’s pretty durable from all appearance, but for nailing I actually prefer a hybrid hose which is more flexible but still pretty durable. I also prefer it in the 3/8″ size with 1/4″ connections because it performs better due to lower friction and increased volume. I recommend picking one of those up too at some point, but see if you like this one first.
Finally, they include some useful accessories. A basic blow gun, air pressure gauge, some couplers and tips for the blow gun and even teflon tape which is essential for making good connections.
Overall, it’s a pretty complete package and the air compressor, nailer, hose and accessories are all good. You’ll develop a preference like I did for some of these things, but this is perfect to get started. If you just want the compressor and/or nailer, you can also buy them separately and not pay for something that you don’t like or need.
Great portability
I ordered this CRAFTSMAN 6 Gallon Pancake Air Compressor to be able to use my air tools at remote locations.
The tank is the right size for running my intermittent use nailers, staplers, and rachets without running out of air. Continuous use air tools such as sanders and polishers will deplete the small volume tank and you will have to wait for the pressure to build back up. The compressor is light enough to easily load it into your vehicle, yet heavy enough to not move while in use. There are two pressure gauges on the compressor. One that indicates the pressure in the tank and another that tells you the output pressure from the adjustable regulator. There is also an easy to use water drain at the tank bottom.
The quick-disconnects that come with this compressor are good quality and they are a common size. I changed them to the V-style QDs that I use in my shop so that everything is interchangeable. The hose is a decent hose, but lacks the flexibility of some of the more expensive hoses that I have. The accessories that come with this compressor include, an air gun with two different tips, a tire Schrader valve inflator attachment, a tire pressure gauge, a roll of Teflon tape, and best of all, a 2-inch, 18 GA brad nailer.
This compressor is moderately noisy. It is quieter than my 60-gallon upright compressor, but loud enough that you would not want to have it next to you during a long workday. It only takes a few minutes to go from 0 psi to the factory set 150 psi due to the small volume. I let the compressor sit overnight starting at 150 psi, and in the morning, it had bled down to 120 psi. I soap leak checked all of the connections and there was no evidence of leakage, so the loss of pressure overnight must be internal to the pump itself.
At the current price of $279.97, I feel this compressor is a good value, especially since it includes a nice brad nailer. I am pleased with the performance of this compressor.
Solid, well-made compressor kit with a few practical notes for first-time users
I tested this Crafstman 6-gallon pancake air compressor using the included air sprayer and brad nailer, and overall it feels like a very well-made, solidly built tool. I’m new to air compressors, so a few of my first impressions may be helpful to others considering the pros and cons of a dedicated pancake compressor.
I had hoped to use this with a small-project paint sprayer, but the compressor is rated slightly below the recommended specification for that type of tool. It should, however, be well-suited to airbrushing, which is next on my project list.
It worked great with the nail gun. I purchased an inexpensive generic brand of brad nails separately, and they worked perfectly with the Craftsman setup. I also tested the included air sprayer, and it worked as expected.
One important setup note: for the hose connections that screw together, it is definitely necessary to use the included plumber’s tape to seal the threads. Without the tape, it sounds like the hose is not even attached because so much air escapes. The red tape shown on one of the hoses appears to be a pre-applied thread seal, so that connection did not need additional tape.
A few environmental notes: this compressor is really loud. Ear-protection loud. That mainly applies during the initial compression cycle, which lasts around a couple of minutes, and then during occasional refill cycles afterward. It is not constantly loud the entire time you are using the tools, but the refill noise is something to be aware of.
It’s quite heavy. One person can lift and it’s definitely portable but you wouldn’t want to be carrying it around all day.
I tested all the pressure control valves including the main bleed valve, the tools knobs, and the condensation outlet and they all functioned as expected.
Overall, this seems like a sturdy, capable, and useful compressor kit, especially for brad nailing, air spraying/cleaning, and likely airbrushing.
Good DIY performe
I’m still regularly using Craftsman tools I purchased more than 55 years ago. Sadly, the Craftsman line took a significant drop in quality during the 90s and early 2000s as Sears fortunes declined. In 2017 Craftsman was picked up by Black and Decker, one of the largest tool manufacturers and distributors in the world. Since then, the quality has improved. I’ve purchased several Craftsman tools in the past few years that more than met my expectations. B&D product lines include DeWalt, Black and Decker, Stanley, Porter Cable, Troy Built, Mac Tools, Bostich, Proto and others. This compressor looks virtually identical to one sold by Porter Cable, another Black and Decker brand I’ve always had good luck with. It comes with a dual output so that you can have two tools operational at once. It’s quieter than my old, now deceased, 20 gallon Craftsman (dating back to the late 70s) but noticeably louder than my Makita 6 gallon compressor. However, the Craftsman is significantly lighter and much more portable. The compact pancake design makes it very easy to transport with no sharp edges or awkward protrusions. That’s increasingly important now that I’m in my late 70s. This is the compressor that will go where my projects are.
This compressor kit configuration also includes a brad nailer, hose and basic quick connect and utility accessories. The brad nailer is smaller and lighter than my Metabo pin nailer, and extremely comfortable to use. It drives 18 gauge brads into both hard and softwoods easily. The depth is quickly adjustable as is the exhaust direction.
The compressor comes almost fully assembled. You’ll only need a T-20 driver, not included, to install the handle.
