Cool Multi-Use Edger, Weed Whacke
The first thing that caught my eye about this was that I already had the DeWalt batteries it needed. It’s been really convenient to not have to deal with cords or gas anymore. I haven’t had any issues with cutting through weeds either. The fact that it converts into an edger is really cool and something I didn’t expect from this. But’s been great to keep my lawn up in between landscaping sessions. I’m also looking forward to getting the lawn mower attachment available for this in the future. The adjustable handle and telescoping shaft makes it comfortable to use for longer sessions, and the battery indicator helps in planning when to swap out batteries. This is a really cool, portable, multi-use tool that I don’t need an entirely different battery system for.
Exceptional but a little dangerous
I have the Cordless tiller from Yudara, which I really like. This too is a really good yard tool, with a few notes.
First off, much like the tiller, the instructions that come with this are not particularly good. Putting it together takes a bit of work, especially since the tightening nut tightens counterclockwise – which isn’t mentioned in the directions. I was trying for a good 15 minutes, wondering why it wouldn’t go on clockwise. Secondly, when first using it, I was annoyed that the cutting angle wasn’t all that great. The instructions fail to mention the cutting angle can be adjusted as well.
Once you’re past that, this works great. I already have a string edger, so I was more interested in the cutting blades this comes with. It comes with 2 string attachments, 2 metal blades, and a full on-saw blade.
I’m using the metal blade and I can attest it 100% cuts through brush that will merely tangle the string. It is a literal saw on a stick. That said, one needs to use caution with it. It can easily slice through a vinyl fence if you’re not careful, and it sends up sparks if it hits concrete (don’t ask me how I know this). Secondly, the spinning mechanism doesn’t auto lock when power is removed. The blades need a few seconds to spin down – so one needs to be careful when using this. It’s a serious tool, but it carries with it some danger if you’re not careful.
Another thing I like is there’s a plastic guide wheel on one side, for sideways edging against a house or sidewalk, a nice tough to stave off arm fatigue.
It works with Dewalt 20V batteries, including those that power DeWalt’s cordless drills, which is awesome. There’s also a battery gauge on the edger to let you know how much battery is remaining, but in tests I found it unreliable. However, typically I’m not using an edger like this for more than a few minutes at a time, so I’m not overly worried.
There are some caveats to this edger, but overall it’s a solid yard tool, that’s adjustable in a variety of ways to fit your personal comfort. I foresee it getting a lot of use this summer.
