    It’s pretty basic and initially I wasn’t that big of a fan of it because the settings were clunky. I have 48v batteries connected. So all the settings have a ” *4 ” setting you have to select to switch from 12v to 48v. Initially I tried to set this up with my loads on the load terminals. Could never get the battery cutoff voltage dialed in correctly so overnight when my micro inverters would drain the battery too low the charge controller would shut down and then lose the date and time settings. Without date and time then it’s pointless to try and use scheduled load on and off programming. So next day the when the solar panels got sun and powered up the charge controller, it wouldn’t turn on the load side because date was 1/7/2022 @ 12:00 am. I’d lose a day of production because my micro inverters wouldn’t come on the load side. Tried to dial in the load to be on all the time but realized I was kind of wasting power running the charge controller from battery to then enable the load side. Figured it was just a poor design since I didn’t have enough battery power and this charge controller can’t be powered from the grid or AC.

    I initiated a return for this and ordered another brand. The other brand charge controller features and settings were even worse and that other unit cost more. So reluctantly I put this unit back in service. I considered a Victron model but the cost for such a quality piece was more than I wanted to spend for my project goals.

    Now my loads are connected directly in parallel to the 48v battery bank which is also connected to the charge controller. I have 6 430 watt panels connected in 2S3P config to this inverter via 3 separate DC breakers before combing into this charge controller. Unit has a built in fan that kicks in when charging about 1200 watts or more if I recall correctly. Noise isn’t an issue for me as I have it mounted outside under a patio cover so I never hear it unless I’m outside in the vicinity.

    My grid tie micro inverters (anti islanding so no grid feed during an outage for safety) are WiFi capable and managed in the SmartLife app. I can schedule them via the app reliably as well as adjust the output power to match my average daily power consumption baseline for offset.

    I’ve had this unit for nearly 2 months. To date it shows total lifetime production at 652KWh. For my particular use case and goals of offsetting my average household load this has been a nice piece of equipment for the price. With a relatively small 6 panel setup and two 48V 100ah (200ah total) golf cart style batteries, I’ve reduced my monthly electric bill from 386 to 188 in Southern California. Didn’t have the second battery the entire billing cycle so my micro inverters would cut off around 1-2 am. Now with 200ah of LIFEPO4 battery I’m getting 24/7 offset so long as the panels get a fair amount of sun to charge the batteries daily.

    This charge controller works for my setup. If it had WiFi or some other way to sync date and time after a power loss instead of working your way through unlocking the device and programming then I’d probably rate 5 stars. On the other hand, I ended up keeping and using this charge controller that I initially tried to return and with a slight wiring change it’s been working fine for me.
