This beekeeping jacket was incredibly comfortable and easy to work in. My husband modeled in the photos but I wore this for 4 hours while several groups of us were doing inspections and splits at a friend’s large apiary. Our group had one hive with a missing queen, lots of swarm cells and some pretty unhappy bees, but this jacket and veil provided good protection, great visibility (I wore the fencing veil but it also comes with a round veil if that’s your preference). The multiple layers provided excellent air flow keeping me cool, but was still easy to maneuver in. It was a bit large for me, but I’m not the usual beekeeper in the family and we all like a loose fit in our hot southern climate. There are plenty of pockets to hold all your tools, the zippers are of good quality though I would advise working them a little bit to loosen them up. We don’t usually wear the leather gloves as we both prefer latex, so one problem was in tightening the wrists sufficiently – there was an abundance of Velcro to the point that it was in the way of tightening the wrist closures properly. The gloves are good quality, and comfortable. The only reason this lost a star was the odor. I have had this jacket hanging for nearly a month, taking it outdoors on nice days to air out, knowing I had a commitment I would need it for and hoping the odor would dissipate before I had to spend hours in the midst of it not knowing how the bees might react to the smell. I would still recommend this jacket, veils, and gloves but would also recommend ordering ahead of time and having a plan for airing it out. The price may seem a bit high but the quality is on par with name brand jackets that are more expensive still so over all not a bad deal.
Excellent Ventilated Beekeeping Jacket Kit – Great Value and Solid Protectio
I recently picked up this beekeeping jacket set and have been really impressed with the quality and thoughtfulness of the design. It’s clear this kit was made with practical beekeeping in mind.
What I Love:
Versatile Hood Options: The two zip-on hoods are a fantastic feature. One has a pleated screen for good visibility and airflow (with a Velcro piece to keep the pleates expanded), while the other one is a traditional hat style veil. Being able to switch them out depending on conditions or preference adds a lot of flexibility.
Build Quality:
The fabric is a nice thick cotton that feels durable without being overly stiff. The zippers are heavy-duty and glide smoothly; no cheap plastic ones here. The triple-layer ventilated panels are a standout; they provide excellent airflow while keeping stingers well away from your skin. I’ve felt confident working with more active hives.
Gloves and Storage:
It includes a solid pair of white lambskin beekeeper gloves that offer good dexterity and sting protection. They feel premium compared to many cheaper alternatives. The included plastic storage bag is a nice bonus for keeping everything clean and organized between uses, but a fabric bag would have been a nicer touch.
The jacket fits well (I went with my usual size and had room to layer if needed), and the ventilation really does make a difference in warmer weather. It strikes a great balance between protection, comfort, and breathability.
Minor Notes:
No major complaints so far. The hoods attach securely via the zippers, though I always double-check the seal around the neck for peace of mind. Lambskin gloves will need occasional care to stay supple, but that’s standard.
Overall:
This is a well thought out kit that performs above its price point. Whether you’re a hobbyist or managing multiple hives, it delivers reliable protection with convenient features.
Great Jacket and Accessories
I have been keeping bees since 2020 and it is very important to have either a good Jacket or Full suit to guard against stings when inspecting the hives. I have both and currently I like wearing the jacket. I am reviewing the “3-Layer Ultra Ventilated Beekeeping Jacket with Gloves &2 Protective Veil Hoods for Men and Women, Professional Protection Beekeeping Suit (XL)” so I will only be talking about the Jacket.
For me there are 2 key elements that the Jacket needs to do and they are
1. Protect from stings
2. Ventilation.
This Jacket has 3 layers and with the 3 layers it provides thickness that makes it virtually impossible for the bees to sting through it. There is an elastic waist band that closes off the waist that prevents the bees from gaining access to the inside of the Jacket. The zipper seems to be of good quality and is easy to zip the jacket closed. The neck area is double layered that works to help keep bees out. There are both velcro bands to go around the wrist and aloop that goes around the thumb to keep the sleeves from riding up the arm. The last two features are not important to me but are nice to have. I find that when wearing the gloves, my sleeves stay put with no problem but if using the latex gloves, then these two features are very valuable.
This suit comes with 2 face/head protections. On is a round veil that gives a fantastic view on all sides. I have tried this type of veil before and it is not my favorite because it seems that any type of breeze will dislodge it from my head and then I have to fight to get it back on. The other type of veil is the fencing veil, which I prefer. Both veils are easy to remove and install on the jacket The fencing veil also has the added feature of being able to open the front without having to remove the whole veil. This is done by a zipper that goes around the front of it.
2. The other feature that makes a good Jacket is ventilation. Working with the bees is done during the summer months and it is vital to avoid heat stroke while inspecting the hives. If a suit is well ventilated, then the risk of heat stroke goes down. This suit is well ventilated and keeps me cool during inspections.
This Jacket also comes with a pair of gloves. The hand portion of the gloves are made of sheep skin leather. The leather is a good thickness that helps protect from stings but gives the keeper the dexterity necessary to perform the inspections. The forearm portion of the gloves are made of the same material that the jacket is made from that provides protection and ventilation.
This is a good jacket set that compares in quality to a jacket that is 2.5 times the cost. The manufacture of the jacket is good and the materials are of good quality. I recommend this product.
