Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSuperb Quality
This is a superb Extra Large Squirrel House. I have been following different squirrel house owners on social media, and decided to order one for myself. This one looks so pretty. It blends in to my trees and yard well.

Thankfully, the instructions for the assembly are very easy to follow. I mounted it to a tall tree in my yard. I have all kinds of animals and birds in my yard, but the squirrels are some of my favorite.

This particular squirrel house designer seems to have thought of everything with this design. There is a 3.15 inch entrance that is raccoon proof. I have seen a raccoon checking it out in late evening, and it was not able to stick its arm in like with other houses I have seen.

I wish the house would have been made of cedar, but the pine that it is made from does seem durable. It has been treated (according to the literature) with eco friendly water resistant varnish.

I have had it up for several weeks through a few heavy rains, and it does seem like it is sturdy. It has a slightly sloped roof and bottom drainage holes so there is no standing water in it. There are also good ventilation holes which is nice to have in hot weather. The front panel has a strong secure latch.

I have seen a couple of songbirds checking it out, but they seemed to realize it was too deep and left it alone. There has been one squirrel that has left a walnut in it that I had placed nearby. I am so excited to see what tenants I have in the future since I have become permanent landlord of this nice squirrel house.

It’s a good solid squirrel house, but my only issue is the material it’s made from or varnished in in this case. I’m not 100% sure it’s safe if the squirrel goes to chew on the wood as some animals like that are apt to do. Squirrels have to chew to keep their teeth from getting too long and wood is tempting for them. Still managed to get this together pretty easily and found a decent tree to mount it on, haven’t seen any squirrels checking it out yet, but I did see a bird looking.

Golden Review Award: 1 From Our UsersCan't wait for the squirrels
This house arrives in a large box but you will have to put it together. It’s made with real wood (I don’t know if it’s pressure treated wood or how long it will or if it should be sealed or painted.) All the screws you need come in the box and the instructions were very clear and easy to follow. My 7 year old was able to pretty much put this together with minimal help. This was a fun build. I can’t for someone to claim it. The house has protection for the squirrels from things that might try to get in or eat them and a porch area for them tonget some shade. It can also be opened if needed for cleaning or installing a wildlife camera. I don’t plan on either of those but its nice to know it’s there.

Golden Review Award: 1 From Our UsersWell built and very clean looking.
Very well built wooden squirrel house. Its pretty big. Was not sure about the actual size since there is an even larger version available.

Comes packaged nice and neat with all hardware. Its kind of like an Ikea project. Locate all the pieces and layout your hardware. Assembles in about 10 minutes. I did find that the parts were cut so precise that you have to patiently snap pieces together to get it to fit right. Don’t lose any of the four tiny little screws that are included for the latch. Instructions are not the best but overall the pictures do show how to piece it together. I got this mounted on our tree now but no squirrel has yet claimed it. I like how the front panel can be opened up so you can clear out the nesting box area.

Prime real estate for our squirrels. Now I can see them every day.
Well, this little wooden house turned into the best kind of backyard “real estate drama” we’ve ever had.

We put this up in a wooded spot out back and honestly didn’t expect much at first, but it didn’t take long before our local black squirrel decided it was worth checking out. Now it’s basically home base for him and what looks like his little family. Pretty entertaining watching them come and go like they own the place (which, let’s be honest, they kind of do now).

We already had been putting out snacks nearby, so getting them comfortable wasn’t too hard, and once they figured out the box was safe and sturdy, they settled right in. The platform design seems to be a favorite hangout spot, and the predator guard gave us a bit more peace of mind knowing they’ve got some added protection.

Installation was straightforward and it mounted nicely to the tree without any fuss. Solid feel to it, and it blends into the yard in a way that doesn’t look out of place or bulky.

Overall, it’s become one of those simple backyard upgrades that ends up bringing way more enjoyment than expected. We check it way more than we probably should just to see what the little black squirrel crew is up to next.

Excellent value and a great spot for photographing them.. I just need a little trail cam to hook up and live stream them that could be their rent payment..

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEasy and fun to assemble, sturdy when finished and looks grea
This was fun to put together with easy to follow directions. The pieces are thick and everything fit together perfectly. I will make one note about when you go to screw in the main side slats that the squirrel will use to climb up and into the nest box. The directions for “Step 4” say to use the “C” screws when attaching the two #2 pieces (the ones with holes for the squirrel) to side wall #1. But I highly suggest using the longer screws that are supposed to be used for mounting to a tree or post for this step. Using the “C” screws left the #2 pieces in “Step 4” felling unsteady, especially for the squirrels we have here in the north east. They are, let’s say well feed. But once you have this squirrel nesting box put together it is very study and a nice large size too. Build it and they will come, and they will use it if you place it in the proper location. Keep it out of direct southern exposure so that it doesn’t get too hot, pick an area that has morning sun to mostly shade throughout the day. The pieces come already lightly stained and sealed so you can put it together, hang it and it’s ready to go. You will need to apply a thin water sealer at the end of every nesting season so it can last for many squirrel generations.

    Very sturdy!
    Pros:

    *Extremely well-ventilated.

    *Thick, sturdy boards.

*The perfect size for a family of squirrels.

*Beautiful pine with a lovely, glossy finish.

*The joints are nice and tight.

    *It seems weather-resistant.

*At just under fifty-six dollars, it is a good value for the money.

    Note:

*Fastening the upper shelf to the brackets is left out of the instructions. However, there is a fastener, and it is simple to join the pieces.

    Concern:

*The listing says that the finish is eco-friendly. However, it does not say what the finish is. So, I can’t research whether it may have any health effects on squirrels.

Overall, this squirrel house is very nice. It is exceptionally beautiful and solid. I anticipate that it will get heavy use for many years. Assuming they had basic tools and assembly skills, I would recommend this house to a friend.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWell made. Big, solid and, attractive. Better than expected overall. Some mounting difficulty.
This is a very well-made squirrel house. It is bigger than it looks. All solid wood with a good finish. Looks great and feels solid. I even like the squirrel etched on the front door. I have just put it out, so I cant speak to durability. However, based on the materials, I expect it to do pretty well. The only component that seems low quality is the latch for the door. It is metal, but very thin and flimsy. Not quite to the standard of the rest of the item. It would be easily replaced if it fails over time, though.

It was relatively easy to assemble by following the directions. The ID stickers came off of some of the pieces, but it didn’t take too long to figure out what went where. It took me about 20 minutes to assemble. It took another 20 to mount – which I explain later. The only tool needed (for assembly) is a Phillips screwdriver.

While assembly is seamless, the same cannot be said for mounting/hanging. I recommend hanging it where you want it before attaching the front door. The door gets in the way of the mounting screws and makes it difficult to hang – even with the door open. And it (the door) cannot be easily removed once attached. I had to use a ratchet in order to reach up there and drive the top screws when hanging. In addition, the provided screws are not nearly long enough to mount this house to a tree. They might work on a perfectly flat wall, but even then I would want more support. For a curved tree, they will never be long enough. I replaced those 4 included screws with 9 Gauge 2.5 inch deck screws. These worked perfectly, and the house is securely mounted to a large tree. I have included a picture of a screw that I used beside one that was provided.

Once assembled and installed, I put some nuts in and around the squirrel house in order to get the squirrels accustomed to it. They have eaten all of the nuts, including those inside, but are not yet going into the house for any other reason. It has only been there for a few days. I suspect that they will start to use it, especially this winter. I will update the review when they do.

I am very pleased with the quality of this item. The only problems are those mounting issues I described, and they were easy to work around. The house itself is actually bigger and better than I expected. I consider it a good value in the $50 range for something of such good quality.
