Very well packaged and a high quality case for a great camera the Insta360 X5
I tested it in my backyard pool and even the bathtub to simulate real-world splash and submersion, since beach season hasn’t kicked in yet. Short version: it’s built like a tank, works flawlessly with the camera’s Dive Case mode, and justifies its price if you care about protecting your investment and getting clean footage underwater.
Bottom line: buy if you need reliable waterproofing, clear optics, and sturdy mounting for the Insta360 X5.
Pros:
– Robust waterproofing—no leaks in pool and bathtub tests
– Clear visuals—footage looks like the camera isn’t in a case when Dive Case mode is enabled
– Included fog pads/desiccant actually prevent condensation
– Solid tripod socket for selfie stick and mounts
– Protective storage bag included
Key features and performance (what mattered most to me)
1. Waterproofing integrity
– I submerged the case in a swimming pool and a bathtub. It did not leak. The seals and latch mechanism inspire confidence, and the anti-fog pads kept the inside clear.
2. Optical clarity with Dive Case mode
– With the camera set to Dive Case mode (after updating firmware to 1.0.08), you honestly can’t tell it’s in a housing. No obvious softening or color cast in my tests.
3. Anti-fog/condensation control
– The included desiccant “fog pads” worked. I had zero fogging during longer pool sessions, which is crucial for continuous underwater recording.
4. Mounting and usability
– The tripod socket at the bottom paired perfectly with my selfie stick for underwater shots. The case is big, but controls remained straightforward once set up.
5. Protection and storage
– The included storage bag kept the housing scratch-free between sessions. Build quality feels premium and durable.
How I used it, problems it solved, and real-world durability
– Use cases: pool tests, bathtub submersion, prep for upcoming beach dives.
– Problems solved: eliminated leaks and fogging; ensured the X5 stayed dry while capturing clear video underwater; provided a stable mount point for controlled shots.
– Durability: after multiple wet sessions and handling, the seals, hinges, and exterior show no wear. It feels engineered for repeated use, not just occasional dips.
Value for money
– It’s a little more expensive, but in my opinion the price is justified by the leak-proof design, optical performance in Dive Case mode, included anti-fog pads, and overall build quality. If you’re protecting a very expensive Insta360 X5 and plan to shoot in/under water, the cost makes sense.
Final verdict
– Buy if you plan regular underwater or splash-heavy shooting and want dependable sealing and clean footage.
– Ideal for creators who need a trustworthy underwater housing that won’t degrade image quality and who value the convenience of included accessories and a solid mounting point.
Hard to Handle Underwate
This case does a good job of keeping your X5 camera dry while shooting underwater, but it has a couple of issues that prevent it from being a five star item. The first issue is the volume. The case holds a good amount of air, and will be difficult to keep submerged. Having it oriented in any direction other than bubble up, is difficult. Just moving it around underwater requires constant effort, because the case and camera are constantly trying to surface. If I had to use this for any amount of time underwater, I’d work out some sort of counter weight system, so it would have neutral buoyancy. As it is not, it is too difficult to use while swimming, and would be better suited to being tripod mounted, as long as the tripod is heavy. The next issue is that the plastic bubble creates a visible warping visual artifact on one of the sides. This could be a QC problem or just the way they come out. I could notice it, but my wife did not. These two issues together, cost a full star.
Four Star Waterproof Diving Case for an Insta360 X5 Camera
High quality case to protect your X5 to 60M water depth and from impacts
I’m really impressed with the quality of this dive case for the Insta360 X5. The clear plastic case comes with alcohol cleaning pads and anti-fog pads that you insert into the case to prevent condensation buildup on the interior. It is hinged at the top and has four clips (2 on each side) to hold it securly closed. It even comes with a nice soft drawstring bag to carry or store the case without risk of scratching the lenses.
The instructions recommend closing the case without the camera inside and placing the case underwater to check for any bubbles from air leaking out (and water leaking in), before use. I did that and it performed flawlessly. Of course, that was only in a few inches of water, the real test would be at depth. I’m a snorkler not a scuba diver, so I won’t be taking it down to anywhere near its rated depth of 60 meters.
If you have lens protectors on your camera, the instructions say to remove them before installing the camera in the case. Not that there isn’t room for them, but you don’t need that extra layer of plastic between you and the water. You’ll also need to update your camera’s firmware to at least version 1.0.08 for use with this case. I did that following the instructions that came with the case and it was very quick and easy.
The case includes two external buttons which are aligned with the buttons on the side of the camera, so you can operate them while the camera is in the case. However, you won’t be able to use the touch screen to change camera settings once it’s in the case, so you need to do that ahead of time.
On the bottom of the case, there is a standard magnetic quick-release mount and 1/4″ x 20 threaded mount, just like on the camera itself so you can easily mount it on a selfie stick to extend the camera out into a ball of fish to whatever else you encounter. It’s worth noting that while the case does support the standard magnetic quick release mount, it does not come with such a mount. It does however come with a 1/4 x 20 threaded mount and 2 prong adapter with thumbscrew.
Even if you don’t plan to dive or snorkel, this camera case is perfect for other types of water sports like kayaking or jet skiing where you want to protect the camera from water exposure or accidental impact.
