Surprisingly handy for small yards
When I first received this Saker manual lawn aerator, I wasn’t sure how much use I’d get out of it, but it ended up being exactly what I needed for my small front yard. If my yard were any bigger, I’d probably want something more heavy-duty, but for the space I’m working with, it’s perfect.
I recently bought a house and have a small side yard where I’m replanting grass, and this tool has been doing double duty for me. I’ve used it not only to aerate the soil but also to loosen stubborn weeds so they’re easier to pull. It’s been really helpful for prepping the area before laying new sod.
For compact spaces and hands-on yard work, this tool has truly worked like a charm.
Good, inexpensive aerator, that does exactly what it says.
Last fall, I managed to break our old Aerator, which wasn’t much more than a series of spikes attached to a handle. It was originally my parents’, and was probably 40 years old. (Metal plate rusted, and broke) It was late in the season, so I didn’t start looking for a replacement, until this year.
I stumbled onto this one, and after it arrived, I put it together, to see how it handles.
Up front, this isn’t anything overly complicated, or amazing.. it’s simply a metal plate, attached to another plate with holes in it, and springs to make raising it up, after pressing it into the soil, easier. If you’re looking for something large, or automated.. look elsewhere.
However, that said, this thing works perfectly fine. It puts holes in the lawn. After which, I spread grass seed, and everything is fine. (Actually, the process I use, is aerate, grass seed… sprinkle a little bit of dirt in the areas I concentrated in, and then water) I’ve already got a few seedlings popping up.
It’s easy to use, and inexpensive. If I HAD to find complaints, it’d be that:
1.) it’s a little shorter in length than my old one, but I’m above average height, so I fully understand that.
2.) Also, the springs aren’t that strong… so there’s a few times you may have to give it a little wiggle to get it to retract back upwards, after you press it down. That also said, the tradeoff would be if they were too stiff, it’d requite more force to get the spikes to press downwards, into the soil.
No complaints, as of yet.. the thing works exactly as expected, and it didn’t break the bank.

I maintain a large yard and handle all the gardening myself, so I’m always on the lookout for tools that are genuinely efficient rather than just adequately functional. This aerator delivers on that front.

Price is fair for what you get, and the included gloves are a thoughtful bonus — not an afterthought pair either.
