Cute popcorn maker but misses kernels
I love popcorn. I grew up with popping it in a pan with oil. As an adult we had air poppers, but the salt didn’t stick unless you sprayed it with fake butter. Once we got microwaves and microwave popcorn that was convenient, but i always ended up burning it because I waited till the last second to take it out.
This Wumple popcorn maker looks very retro with the flashing lights underneath and the clear dome. When I tested it out I followed the directions for one section of popcorn. My popcorn was a little old, but it did pop. It seems to take longer than just using a pan and oil. It tended to shove unpopped kernels to the edges. I suppose I could shake it. My butter didn’t melt on the vent and it was butter that was already room temperature.
Being able to use the lid for a bowl is convenient and being able to see when the popcorn is done keeps from burning it. It comes with a recipe book that is mostly stir in ideas. Its a cute popcorn maker, but honestly, for the price I would expect more. Most popcorn makers are a lot less than this costs, so I think you are paying for the flashing lights.
Popcorn tastes great! Fun to Use
I eat microwaved popcorn almost every night and I worry about the health repercussions of using a microwave so frequently. This Wumple Popcorn machine is a great alternative. It may take a bit longer to pop, but knowing that its better for me is worth it. The setup was super easy and it’s nice to have a machine that pops most of the kernels so I have to worry less about chomping down on a hidden seed. I really like the design and it looks nice sitting on my countertop. The lid doubles for a bowl, but it’s a bit awkward trying to turn it over after its done popping. The machine itself is very easy to wipe down after I’m finished popping and the popcorn tastes really good! It’s been a fun choice and I’m happy I was able to test this item. Thank you for sending!
I make popcorn regularly, so I came into this with some experience and high expectations — and that context probably affects my rating. If you’re new to popcorn making, you might be more impressed than I was.
On the positive side: it does pop corn, it lights up while doing it, and it looks really cool on the counter. That part is genuinely fun. It’s also easy to use and clean, which is always a plus. It also smells amazing while popping — just like popcorn should, with no chemical or machine-like odor.
As for taste, the popcorn comes out tasting good. That said, great popcorn is really about the ingredients you use, not the machine itself — and this one doesn’t impart any funny or off taste, which is exactly what you want.
Where it falls short is performance. Depending on how much popping corn you add, the machine pushes kernels to the sides, resulting in a lot of unpopped corn. You can reduce the amount you add to get a better pop, but then you won’t fill the bowl — so it’s a bit of a trade-off either way. It also takes about 15 minutes to make a single batch, which feels a bit long.
The butter compartment is a neat idea in theory: you place butter on top, and as the machine heats up, it melts and drips down onto the popcorn. The problem is that if your butter is cold, it doesn’t fully melt. I found it easier to just melt the butter in the microwave and add it after popping.
Weight-wise, it’s not too heavy, but noticeably heavier than a standard air popper — something to keep in mind if counter space and portability matter to you.
I prefer oil-popped popcorn over air-popped, and for the price, I expected better performance. It’s not a bad machine, but it didn’t meet the bar I was hoping for.

One of my favorite features is that the tub used to make the popcorn also doubles as a serving bowl and comes with a lid, making it easy to store leftovers or carry around for movie nights.
It is very easy to use and comes with clear instructions along with recipe ideas for different popcorn flavors and seasonings. The popcorn cooks evenly thanks to the rotating piece in the center that keeps the kernels moving while popping. It leaves very few unpopped kernels, and the popcorn tastes fresh without the greasy or oily taste of microwave popcorn.
The lid stays on securely, and the overall build feels durable and sturdy. The bowl does get a little warm after popping, and the base gets hot, so that is something to be mindful of while using it.
Cleaning it afterward is also simple, which makes it even more convenient for regular use. Overall, this is a fun and practical popcorn maker that works great for movie nights, dorm rooms, kids parties, or everyday snacks.
I love how cute this is and it’s fun to use. My family likes to eat popcorn a lot so we were really excited to try it out. I like how it looks and I like that you can see the popcorn popping. You don’t get that with bagged popcorn in the microwave.
It’s also easier to control the amount of oil or butter you use because you pour it in yourself. So if you want to be healthier, you can. It’s definitely healthier than bagged popcorn. It’s also nice that the lid is also the bowl you eat the popcorn from so you don’t have to dirty another bowl or container.
The only downside is that the base gets pretty hot so you have to be careful not to touch it. And if you have small kids around make sure to watch their fingers. It doesn’t always pop all of the kernels but neither does bagged popcorn so it’s ok.
Overall it works pretty well. It doesn’t seem super durable so I’m sure it won’t last forever but I think it will last a reasonable amount of time if you clean it properly and store it well.
