It's got everything!! I have so much to lea
This set is huuugeee! What an amazing package. This seems to be a complete set of gear here. Pretty much just need boots and a hive and the bees to inhabit it. Seems like everything else is covered in this set. I can tell this set has been well thought out and compiled for specific purposes even though I am not even sure what all the pieces are yet.
I’m just getting started in the hobby. I’ve been learning all I can online. I’ve found some good guides which helped me with creating a supply list and that’s how I came across this set. It’s got everything in my list besides the hive, and it’s got a while lot more. I guess I have some more reading to do haha.
The suit fits perfect to the specs. It has good clearance around my face between the mesh. It seems well sealed, yet it’s easy to get in and out of. I don’t see any obvious points where I would be concerned about bees getting in. So seems well designed and constructed to me.
All the gear here feels low level and introductory pieces. That’s it a bad thing. It’s exactly what I was looking for. I need a starting point. And this has all that and more. It’s enough to get someone going. It’d also be great for a backup set of gear to have on hand to have friends or family help out sometimes.
I’m sure some of these components may be outgrown fast and eventually swapped for heavier duty materials. But bees are light and tiny creatures. And the process of keeping them and maintaining the hive and collecting honey doesn’t need much strength. So even with some of these components ring plastic, they should do just fine for the task.
There’s also a fair amount of mid weight metal tools here so it’s not all just light weight intro stuff. The metal parts feel nice and should last awhile. I like that some components are singles and others there are pairs and others have 2 sizes of a type of thing. Theres definitely a lot of versatility here which I appreciate. And for this price, to get all this and get going quick, it’s a great deal and I highly recommend it if you are ready to take on some bees also 🙂
Great starter kit for beekeeping
This is a nice beekeeping supply kit, but I have one complaint about it. The veil on the suit clings a little close to my face, a hat might help, but it doe not have much room. I am actually pretty happy with the rest of the suit though, the gloves are actual leather, and the xl suit seems pretty true to size and offers good protection from bees. Now for the rest of the supplies, this kit makes a great starter kit and has all tools you need to get started and then some. We’re still a few weeks away from beekeeping season here, but I did try most of the stuff out while feeding my bees and cleaning out a winter dead out hive. The smoker and provided smoker fuel do just fine. Hive tools work great and I appreciate the 3 different styles, some are better for cracking boxes open and scraping burr comb and the thumbs on the other ones are good for freeing up frames. The queen clips are good for capturing queens to put in the other container for marking them. I will use these beetle blasters this spring and I am glad to have them for trapping small hive beetles. I used the uncapping knife and scraper for cleaning up some moldy comb and fermented honey on the deadout frames and both did a fine job. This kit actually contains more tools than you even need for starting out, but definitely has everything you need to get started, and the carry bag is a great way to stay organized. I absolutely recommend this kit as a way to get started with all the tools you need for your first hives.
Good tools for beekeping
This is a mixed bag kit from POLLIBEE that will give you a lot of tools. The kit is obviously geared towards first year beekeepers. Some of the tools are of standard quality, some of which are not. Some of the tools you will need as a first year beekeeper, some you may never have a need for. I’ll try to break down the benefits of all the items included.
First off, no beekeeping suit is sting proof. That being said, this one is probably not going to prevent stings very well, unlike a ventilated suit with multiple layers. Think of these as coveralls with a fencing veil. The bees will be able to sting right through this fabric pretty easily. The gloves are not much better. They are made from a thing goat skin, and are more prone to allowing stings to penetrate.
For the tools, the better quality belongs to the hive tools. They are pretty standard and will hold up for many years. The smoker is a pretty basic smoker and will last you a season or two with proper care. The brush is gentle and will work great. The frame holders are good, and so is the frame grabbing tool. I don’t really use smoker fuel, so I can’t really comment on the quality of them.
The queen marking equipment is pretty standard, but does not include paint markers. The queen clips are standard, the queen cages are ok for transport/isolation purposes, but you may never have a need for them. The grafting tools are for advanced beekeeping and unless you are into bee husbandry, you will probably never use them. The small hive beetle trap is probably left out of the hive, you can find better ones.
The honey harvesting tools are ok, a lot of them standard tools. Keep in mind, some of these items you may never use, it all depends on your personal preference and methods for extracting honey. You may not even get a honey harvest your first year. Overall, if you are looking for a lot of tools as a beginner and would like a backup suit to have on hand, then this is for you. The tools are great for a beginner, however I would recommend a higher quality suit and gloves. The fastest way to put a downer on a hobby is to add unnecessary pain and possible health issues.
