Nice Lift Harness
I haven’t yet used the GliCraft Outboard Motor Hoist Harness Set, for my motor is still bolted to my boat (my hoist is in another state right now), but I have no doubt it will work very well. The nylon strap material appears to be first rate, without any noticeable defects anywhere. All of the stitching is neatly done, without tag ends of thread anywhere to be seen. The buckles, although “no-name”, are large, strong, and apparently durable.
There is no doubt that the harness can lift the weight of a 30 Hp outboard with a great deal of room to spare. It is very adjustable in fit, although that fit is within narrow confines; it will only work one way.
For me, the harness isn’t very intuitive in its setup, but the instructions are written and photo illustrated clearly enough to properly attach it, but don’t lose those instructions! They are a single page. I believe a lifted outboard motor will be very secure and stable in this harness. Note that the product page has a photo showing an engine being lifted with a ring interfacing between the harness and the hoist’s hook, but such a ring is not included with the harness, nor is one necessary.
The price may seem a little steep for what amounts to some nylon strapping with a few buckles, but it seems worth it to ensure the motor doesn’t drop onto the ground; a lower unit is considerably more expensive than this harness.
I need to remove my motor to perform some transom work, so I am very glad to have this harness. After inspection, I don’t see any need to look for a different, better harness, for this one will do the job very nicely. FOUR STARS.
Directions included made this a breeze to use
This harness works for my 25 Yamaha. The straps are heavy duty and the configuration of the harness was easy to attach to my hoist. The buckles are high grade plastic and as long as it is not left out in the weather should last years. It was easy to apply with the directions included. This worked perfect for moving my outboard to a newer boat.
Looks Like a Good Fit and Quality
Ordered for use on a 15HP Merc outboard. It fits fine with plenty of extra strap that can be cut off if necessary. The stitching looks sturdy and the straps look like they are made from poly seat belt material. The plastic buckles look substantial as well but I certainly wouldn’t leave them exposed to UV for long periods. If either of the buckles on the horizontal strap were to break during a lift, the motor is going for a swim. There is also a sleeve that gathers the straps together on top for attachment to a lifting hook. I’m not sure what this is made from or how durable this material will be since this is a wear point. If it does wear through, some tubular webbing could be sewn over top of it. Ill cross that bridge if I come to it. Although the quality of this lifting harness looks good, I’d recommend using a safety tether as well. My boat came with a dinghy but no motor because the previous owner dropped it in the water. 🙁
Heavy Duty 2-30 HP Outboard Engine Lift Strap Harness
This is a heavy duty outboard engine lift strap harness. The harness is rated for 2-30 HP sixe engines. The straps are black high strength woven polyester webbing. Nice carrier, strong
I like this outboard motor carrier. It’s much better than my old one. The nylon strapping is very thick and strong and it’s wide like a seatbelt. Although the straps hook into plastic fasteners, they do snap in very firmly. I would’ve preferred if they were metal or had a way to lock them since my 15 hp outboard is fairly heavy. That being said I’m not super worried about them coming apart while carrying it or hoisting it. It’s very well built. The stitching is good and I think it’s a good value for the money compared to some other marine products. I can’t comment as to durability, but if it doesn’t hold up, I will update this review. I also think it’s adjustable enough to fit a variety of outboard sizes.
