Easy to use
The tool foam was bigger than my son’s Harbor Freight tool chest but it was easy to cut down to size using a razor blade. There are 4 layers- 2 black layers on the outside and 2 layers of red on the inside. I traced the tool and cut out the shape with a razor blade. Once cut, I was able to rip off the layers easily. I had initially cut sections within the cutout, but it wasn’t necessary – just cut the outline and pull it out. My son has ADHD and I’m hoping this will help him keep track of tools and be organized.
The mats are a good thickness and the red/black coloring is pretty cool!
Good Quality
This seems like good quality. It fits in the drawers of my toolbox. I wish that it had been precut (like in the picture with the hand tools), but it does allow for customization so I can choose which tools to store in the foam.
Good Choice for Tool Box Foam
I’m still trying out the tool box foam idea. It really does let you keep things together better but does sacrifice on space a bit. I fit about eight more screwdrivers in this drawer loose than in the foam. The foam is great for retrievability and inventory recognition, not really for maximizing bulk storage.
These one inch mats are good general use thickness and fit my old Craftsman tool box’s shallow drawers. My big flathead does fit with the foam around the handle cut to the lowest layer. An issue with these old drawers not being full extension is that it’s not the most convenient to get the big one in the back out. Consider that for your tool box. I’m not the steadiest hand and am using a cheap blade, but there does seem to be a good bit of dust and flake. I’m told a hot knife would create smoother edges if you care for a super finished look.

This product contains two (2) foam sheets that are 30-inches long, 22-inches wide, and 1-inch thick. I ordered this product to organize a new storage and transportation case for new electronic tools that I want to place in a case for protection. I will be designing and cutting custom-fitted locations for each electronic tool and the related support accessories so that each tool and accessory has a specific location for storage within the case.
One thing I particularly like is that since this product is polyethylene foam, it will not decompose over time the way that polyurethane foam will. Additionally, the polyethylene foam will not dissolve if oil gets on it like some other foam products will (most particularly polyurethane foam).
This is an absolutely great product for creating custom storage positions for tools inside your toolbox, tool case, or other custom case you wish to create. It does take some time to learn how to properly cut the foam to fit properly — It is an acquired skill. Go slowly, learn, and you will become an expert in short order. There are a variety of methods that can be used to create custom-fitted compartments to hold tools. These include simply cutting the outline of the needed space and then removing the layers of foam to the needed depth, cutting completely through one piece of foam and then placing that foam sheet over a completely uncut layer of foam, or the use of a router or even a heated wire or heated knife cutting tool to cut through the foam to be removed.
I have been using my table saw to cut pieces of Onreva foam to fit a number of storage and transportation cases and it has been doing a great job. I have also been using my band saw to cut rounded corners and to make cut-outs for those cases that do not have a rectangular shape. Both of these saws work very, very well. Recently, I discovered a new method for cutting and shaping this polyethylene foam sheet product recently. If you have an oscillating multi-tool and some very sharp blades, preferable with the “Japanese Tooth Design”, you can use your oscillating multi-tool to cut and shape the foam. This method is particularly useful for making plunge cuts into the foam and for making curved, rounded shapes into the foam, most particularly thicker foam segments. I have also recently found that the use of a properly-sized hole saw (without the mandrel or the drill) can be used by hand for creating circular cut-outs and curved (circular) sections of larger custom fitted openings in the foam sheets.
I ordered this product to create a custom foam interior for a new storage and transportation case. I will design discrete places for the electronic tools and individual places for the accessories. I really like the ONREVA foam products. It is quite dense and will hold my tools well without getting crushed. ONREVA foam is a really great product.
