Large focusing knob.
Smoothly dial in precise focus, even when wearing gloves.
Very nice binoculars for their price. the built quality is decent and the optical quality is not bad, with only a little CA on the edges with bright light around.
The wright is very nice and it folds small so I can carry it in my daily backpack without hesitation.
Few cons, however:
1. It doesn’t come with front elements caps. I guess the case is supposed to protect it, but it’s not hard enough and a small blow to the case might damage the front lenses.
2. The focus dial is a bit clumsy and quite poor quality. It takes time to make it work (“slippery feel”) and find the focus’ sweet spot. I would expect more from Nikon…
3. the strap is very narrow. The binoculars are quite light, but I would get wider and more padded strap.
With some sage advice from Alexa, and after comparing as many brands as possible, I purchased these for travel. While the 8×25 version has a wider field of view, my goal was to see as much detail as possible; therefore, the 10×25 seemed to work the best. I’ve had many binoculars and understand the drawbacks of a higher magnification, but also the benefits. Nikon is known for their quality in build and optics and these binoculars have both, plus are waterproof, fog proof, sturdy and can survive just about any conditions, thus making them an all around pair for travel. As expected, the optics were excellent and the compact size makes them easy to carry all day. Yes, the Swarovski, Leica and Zeiss have better optics, but they also have five to ten times the price. At the price point of these binoculars, they are well worth purchasing and will satisfy most users. One thing to note is that the package I received did not have an eyepiece cover which is specifically mentioned to be in the box. I returned the pair and it was replaced with another which also did not have the eyepiece in the box. I reached out to Nikon support and they promised to send one to me, but why was it missing in both boxes?
