50mm objective lenses.
Gather maximum light for a remarkably bright, immersive view from dawn until dusk.
These are my first pair of real binoculars. As a longtime professional photographer who has depended on my Nikon gear, I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed with these binoculars. They are lightweight, powerful and bright, even in low light. I was concerned about reviews of buying a zoom binocular and not being happy. But I disagree. The zoom is an added bonus. I highly recommend.
The magnification is higher than others on Amazon that claim 30x or 36x zoom (of which I purchased multiple and compared head to head, even measuring the magnification using a yardstick). Apparently some companies have no shame in lying about their zoom capabilities, but Nikon has a much more accurate description of the zoom capability. Also, it turns out that 22x is actually quite a lot of zoom, and almost too much. Using a tripod is not essential but it’s really helpful to stabilize the image, to make it very stable and enjoyable. Also, this set of binoculars is a greatly improved version of the prior 10-22×50 Nikon model that was similar (which I purchased and sent back, because the zoom lever jerked instead of being smooth and the construction was much cheaper than I expected from Nikon). This version cost me about $30 more, but it is better constructed and the zoom is smooth. The optics are great and I am very pleased with my purchase.
I was beyond ecstatic with these. But these bino’s are really meant to be used with a tripod or some other way to steady them. Maybe a monopod. While I can hold them steady enough at 10X or even 12X beyond that any shake is greatly amplified. With that said the reasons I am so impressed with these are twofold. One they are extremely clear and crisp as in they rivil my Bushnell Legends with ED glass. Second they are useable all through the zoom range. I have three other zoom binoculars all with much smaller objective lenses, 21mm and 25mm. They are only really useable for 2/3 to 3/4 of the zoom range before the become so dark they are not useable beyond that. All that combined makes these binos exceptional.
Recommend using a tripod adapter to steady the image when zoomed in.
These binoculars are perfect for checking out the surf conditions from my living room window before heading out to go surfing. The zoom feature allows a choice of wider and tighter angles of view. To keep the zoomed in image steady, I purchased an adapter so it can be mounted on a camera tripod that I already had.
