Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFluffy, oversized, and promising, but still a little suspicious at this price
    First impression review:

SO FAR, I have been impressed with the / – – , – -, – , -, ( / ) (: 021). Coming from what was probably a pretty cheap Ikea Grusblad duvet cover insert, this feels like a major upgrade right away. The old insert looked fine when I pulled it out of the cover, but it was flatter, more matted down, and noticeably less plush. This Mellow insert is much fluffier, softer, and has more of that “luxury bed” look without immediately acting like it knows it is being judged.

The outside fabric is super soft in a slightly suspicious way, the kind of soft that makes you glance twice and think, “Okay, what are you made of, exactly?” After looking it up, I found it is microfiber, which means polyester, so it gives me that familiar cheap microfiber sheet feeling: very soft and pleasant, but not necessarily the most breathable or durable thing in the world. The fill is currently puffy and full, and it does a nice job of filling a king size duvet cover completely, which matters because nobody wants a comforter that wanders off inside the cover like it has better places to be. It also feels a bit warmer than my old Ikea insert, with enough heft to feel substantial without becoming a full-on weighted blanket with delusions of grandeur.

I also noticed that it comes in a zippered carrying bag that looks sturdy, though it is not the fabric drawstring bag shown in the listing. The bag is more like a plasticky sleeping bag case, which is useful, but slightly less glamorous than advertised. I am also not sure I will ever be able to fold and roll the insert tightly enough to get it back in there, which is one of those small domestic challenges that somehow feels personally directed at me.

My bigger hesitation is the long-term stuff. Other reviews have made me wary about washing it, and because it is currently working well, I have not wanted to waste the time or resources on a test run just yet. For $150, I was hoping for more of a quality cotton feel rather than something that reminds me a bit of those $20 microfiber sheet sets sold out of the back of a truck. If it keeps its loft, stays fluffy, and does not turn into a sad pancake after a few washes, it may justify the price, but for now it feels like a very nice first impression with a slightly overcaffeinated price tag.
