Saute, simmer, bake, broil, refrigerate all in one pa
This skillet has opened up a whole new repertoire of recipes for me and I’m even rethinking my own dishes. Last night, I made a from-scratch, beefaroni-style meal. Aside from boiling the pasta in a separate pot, everything came together in this skillet. I sauted onions and peppers, browned the ground beef, then added tomatoes and seasonings for the sauce. After letting it simmer, I mixed in the pasta and cheeses and transferred the whole skillet to the oven. Once everything was heated through, I finished it under the broiler to get the cheese on top melted.
It’s such a nice-looking skillet that I brought it straight to the table for family-style serving. And l will admit that after cleanup, once it had cooled, I just put the whole skillet in the fridge to make reheating leftovers easy the next day.
This pan is incredibly versatile, and the 12-inch size feels perfect for most meals. I use an induction stove top, and it worked no issues at all. The enamel coating also seems to provide better scratch resistance compared to traditional uncoated cast iron. Definitely worth more than five stars to me.
Great Skillet, Pleasure to Cook O
This skillet was a pleasure to cook on. For context, I usually cook on regular cast iron skillets but this is my first enameled version. So far I have used it to cook bacon and eggs, and it handled both of those like a champ. It has a lot of the benefits of cast iron, like the great heat retention and distribution. I’m used to cleaning a cast iron skillet so the need to hand wash it does not bother me, and the enameled surface makes it both easier and harder to clean. Easier, in that there is less stuck to the skillet after cooking. Harder, in that I am not sure how delicate I have to be with the coating. Whereas with a regular cast Iron skillet I really scrub away like there is no tomorrow. I am hesitant to do so with this. That would be my main criticism of the product. But, so far it has been durable. Overall I am very pleased with this skillet. Well done Martha Stewart!
🍳 Beautiful Skillet with Great Heat Retention — Classic Martha Stewart Quality
This 12″ enameled cast iron skillet is really well made. The linenwhite exterior is gorgeous on the stove, and the matte black enamel interior feels durable and cooks evenly. It heats up beautifully, holds temperature well, and works for everything from searing to baking. I also like that it’s PFASfree and rustresistant, so it’s lowmaintenance compared to raw cast iron.
It’s a heavy piece (as expected with cast iron), but the helper handle makes it easier to move in and out of the oven. The enamel interior means no seasoning is required, and cleanup is much easier than traditional cast iron.
What I liked:
– Beautiful linenwhite exterior with a classic look
– Matte black enamel interior cooks evenly and doesn’t require seasoning
– Excellent heat retention for searing, frying, and oven use
– PFASfree and rustresistant
– Helper handle makes lifting easier
Things to know
– It’s HEAVY, like all cast iron
– The enamel interior still benefits from using a little oil to prevent sticking
Overall, it is a beautiful, sturdy skillet that performs well and looks great on the stove — classic Martha Stewart quality.
Hand-washing required!
This is a seriously HEAVY duty cast iron skillet! Unlike the plainly boring old skillet I had previously this skillet has style. I wasn’t sure if it would match my kitchen because the listing photos left me with a slight yellow impression but the enamel is actual far more neutral and understated in tone. It’s more akin to an off white.
My only dislike? It’s not dishwasher safe! I’m admittedly lazy when it comes to doing dishes by hand so this is a big UGH for me. To be fair though, I didn’t even check to see if this was dishwasher safe prior to ordering because I already have a lot of Martha Stewart cooking-ware and most if not all of those things are dishwasher safe so I just assumed this would be too. That was my bad. To be fair, I’ve never had a cast iron that was dishwasher safe so maybe there’s a good reason behind them all being hand-wash only.
That said, as annoying as hand-washing this will be I would still recommend it. I’ll just get someone else to do the hand-washing for me! It’s only fair if I do the cooking!
Heavy, lovely skillet, The cooking style of cast iron with the ease of cleaning with enamel
This is a really heavy duty, nicely made, cast iron based skillet. It is cast iron base with an enamel over the cooking surface. This makes it like cooking with the cast iron, giving great heat distribution and the slow cool, but easier to care for and clean and no prep work seasoning the pan.
This pan is very heavy, because it is cast iron, and this pan in larger with a long handle so it does have quite a bit of weight behind it. It is great to cook with, I love the ability to cook with cast iron and the heat distribution but the benefit of enamel coating. I love the pouring spouts and it has a smaller cooking bottom but it is still roomy enough with the slope of the sides which adds a lot of cooking volume. It was great to cook my burrito in for lunch. It did a great job of heating it through before browning it. It was very easy to clean after cooking with it. I did not heat it long enough to heat the handle maybe 15 minutes total worth of cooking, but at the base I could feel the handle getting warm.
The handle does get hot, so just be aware that the handle is also the enamel covered cast iron. It can go in the oven to 500 degrees, I have not yet tried it however it does have this claim (which based on the pan I have, I do believe). I love the color and style of the skillet. It is going to be very useful for cooking! This is a fantastic quality pan. Great for gifting (after you get one for yourself!). Great for someone who loves to cook.
