Very handy and feels great in my hand
What a great EDC if you are looking for a no blade option. I keep this at home to open up cans of stain or finish in the shop, i’ve used it to tighten a loos handle on a pot, and pry off a suction cup that stuck too well for a hanging cat toy.
OK – so I’m a lifelong “knife guy”. I always have at least one pocketknife on my person (where permissible), whether tiny Swiss-Army or OTF Auto.
I have also been involved in a LOT of different Martial Arts over my 56 years.
For years I practiced with and carried an Emerson Combat Karambit as my primary EDC SD knife. It’s quick, light, and nasty if you know how to use it.
Anyone who has done much with a live karambit will generally also attest that even a blunt karambit-like tool is a wonderful force-multiplier for up-close social work should the unfortunate need arise. The problem is that most karambit trainers are expensive or scarce/otherwise difficult to obtain.
I do have a training karambit made of one solid piece of aluminum. It’s an older one that is out of production now, and it’s far too large and ungainly to actually EDC.
This little Kansept Titanium karambit (call it a pry bar if you like – it’s a karambit) is a fantastic little EDC tool IF you learn how to use it. Check your favorite search engine for “kubotan” – it’s a self-defense keychain (force multiplier), and a lot of the kubotan techniques translate very well to this Kansept tool.
This Kansept PryMate is a wonderful tool to keep handy in your pocket, particularly in places where more “aggressive” edged tools might be frowned upon. It’s fast to deploy, incredibly lightweight, small enough to carry comfortably but large enough to actually work, difficult to have taken from you, and is emphatically non-lethal.
I wanted to include a pic actually showing it in-hand – I have an average-sized hand, and in a closed fist the prying edge protrudes a full inch beyond my palm. The prying edge is pleasantly thinner than I would have expected, making it reasonably unlikely to penetrate skin unless quite a bit of force is applied.
For anyone wanting this as a prying tool – great. It works well for that application.
For anyone who actually gets that this is a socially acceptable innocuous-looking force-multiplier that is small, thin, light, and very, very functional – well, you’re going to freaking LOVE this tool.
Modern solid aluminum practice karambits (sans pocket clip) start at about $70. I received this Kansept PryMate as a gift from my wife – for under $50, I can’t complain about the price. It’s an amazing product that I wish had come out 10 years ago.
