The Setup & Build
Out of the box, the build quality feels premium exactly what I’d expect from Insta360. It’s magnetic, so it snaps right onto the back of the phone. If you have a MagSafe case, it sticks well, though I found the connection is strongest if you use it on a bare phone or a very thin MagSafe compatible case. It’s light enough that it doesn’t make my phone feel like a brick, which is important when you’re holding it out on a tripod for a long time.
Display & Connectivity
The screen is surprisingly sharp. It’s advertised as 4K, and while the screen itself is small, the image is crisp enough to check focus, framing, and even see if I have something in my teeth before I start recording.
The wired connection is actually a plus for me. I was worried about lag with a wireless setup, but because this plugs directly into the port, the preview is instant. No stuttering or dropped frames while I’m moving around.
