Well worth the time to put together if serious about composting household waste!
All the videos are spot on when they say there are a lot of screws holding this product together. However without all those screws it would be nothing but a flimsy over-sized toddler toy! The panels once attached properly make up a very sturdy composter that holds a large amount of compostable materials! Read the instructions and the book for best outcome!!
Very easy to assemble if you DON'T follow directions in the manual.
The assembled compost bin is very sturdy and looks great.
The sliding lids were too tight at first but with a little grease they work well.
If you add the proper mix of items into it, there should be no real bad smells.
This tumbler is identical to others found on Amazon and it was on sale for a better price when I bought it.
Video instructions? The QR code in the owner’s manual only lead to this product’s Amazon page where there were no assembly videos available at the time.
However, there are many videos on YouTube for this under different names and they are the same.
But the one to watch is titled “FCMP Composter Assembly Instructions”.
It shows assembly on the stand.
I was able to easily put this together myself without any extra hands.
Do not assemble it as shown in the Owner’s Manual!
Everything is backward and makes it difficult.
Start by assembling the stand first, then placing the sides and center piece onto the stand as shown in my picture.
Then, attach panel after panel leaving the panel with the sliding doors for last.
Match the arrows on the center divider with the ones on each panel.
There WILL be a space there and this is normal!
Do not skip any of the fasteners!
There are photos on other similar products that show the panels eventually separating because they didn’t put the screws in every hole!
This product is not meant to be in the sun all day.
Depending on the climate or time of year, morning sun is best and shade or partial shade the rest of the day is best.
Black plastic absorbs a lot of heat.
In hot climates, interior temps can exceed optimal microbial range and actually slow decomposition by killing beneficial microbes.
Placement:
– Bright area with partial sun
– Morning sun, afternoon shade
– Not sitting directly on scorching concrete
– Protected from extreme afternoon heat
If you live in:
– Cool climate: More sun is beneficial.
– Hot climate (especially southern US, Australia, etc.): Partial shade is better.
Full, constant, intense sun isn’t necessary and may reduce the bin’s lifespan.
Compost heat mainly comes from microbial activity, not solar gain.
