Well designed ki
This bread slicing guide has quickly become one of my most useful kitchen items. It fits all kinds of bread perfectly, from thick rustic sourdough loaves and sandwich rolls to thick toast slices. The measurement markings on the base make it super simple to get consistent slice thickness every time. It folds down into a compact size for easy storage anywhere in your kitchen. Cleaning is super hassle-free as well—just brush away crumbs with the included cleaning tool and rinse it off with water afterward.
I have this style of bread slicer that is plastic. I’m trying to get away from using plastics and got this bamboo one to replace it. Both slicers make it easy to slice the bread into even slices and catch crumbs as you slice.
Because the sides fold, this slicer is easier to set up and put away than the plastic version. (You need to push the side to one end to release it so you can fold it.) Cleanup is easy since the crumbs are in the tray, just brush the crumbs into the trash. The slicer has a fixed width of 6 inches, which is wide enough for the bread from my bread maker. Tip: it’s easier to slice using a 10 inch or longer bread knife.
Now for the negatives:
1. If you aren’t careful when you slice, you’ll nick the sides of the slicing guides, creating splinters.
2. The board that goes at the end to press the loaf against sticks out and can get in the way if you use a short knife.
3. The bottom of the slicing guide fits loose in the tray, with a gap that allows it to slide around when you slice.
The gap is a minor issue for me and I can find a smaller board to put between the cutting guides, but the splintering is a concern. I don’t believe the splinters will get into the bread, but don’t want splinters in my fingers.
Note: As with any wooden or bamboo cutting board, you’ll leave knife marks in the tray when you slice to the bottom of the bread. I don’t see splinters in the bottom, only knife marks. The side splinters because you are slicing in the same direction as the grain.
Good Basic, Simple, Easy to Store. Thick Slices.
Works well on a regular Baked bread loaf. Slightly thicker slices.
Not good for traditional Italian style bread without trimming of the ‘heels’ first to be able to ‘square’ the loaf in the cradle.
The cradle seems a bit too wide for standard sized loaves of bread but still workable. Wide loaves would be recommended. Safety NOTE: Turn loaf around, in the cradle before cutting to the very end of the loaf.
Great Bread Slicer for Homemade Loaves - Neat, Easy, and Adjustable!
This bamboo bread slicer is a really handy tool if you regularly bake your own bread. It makes slicing loaves much more even and controlled, especially for softer sourdough where it’s easy to end up with uneven cuts. The adjustable guide is a nice feature, letting you choose your preferred slice thickness depending on what you’re making.
I also appreciate the foldable design- it doesn’t take up much space when stored, which is a big plus if you don’t want another bulky kitchen gadget on your counter. The crumb tray underneath helps keep things tidy and makes cleanup easier.
One thing to keep in mind is that you do need to be a bit careful when setting it up – making sure everything is properly aligned helps avoid uneven cuts and prevents any potential splintering of the wood. I did notice that I did knick the bamboo.
It feels sturdy overall, and it works well not just for bread but I’m guess could work well for other things – such as bagels. If you’re into baking or know someone who is, this would make a thoughtful and practical gift.
Bamboo bread slice
Very easy to set up and use bread slicer right out the box. Everything is in one piece and easy to put together. Once assembled, I was able to put a loaf of bread in the middle and cut slices to any thickness i want. Putting it together was easy and so was taking it apart and to clean. There are three main pieces: the base which catch crumbs, the tray with the side slots for cutting and a back board that can be added in any open slot to adjust based on the length of bread or cake you might cut that fits. This little device makes me now feel confident in moving away from presliced bread. Now I can get any bakery bread and cut it on my own.
