Thick padding that softens floor play without sliding around on hardwood
My sister-in-law set this up in her living room for her seven-month-old, and we were over visiting last weekend so I got to see it in use. The mat is genuinely thick — when you press down on it your fingers sink in before hitting the floor underneath, which gives a noticeable cushion when the baby flops backward from a sitting position. The top side has a soft velvet feel that the baby seemed happy to lay cheek-down on during tummy time. Underneath, the backing grips the hardwood firmly. She tried sliding it with her foot and it stayed put even when the baby was rolling around on top. Covers a large area, enough room for a couple of toys spread out plus the baby. A bottle dribbled some milk onto the surface and it wiped off with a damp cloth without soaking in. Heavy enough that it lays flat without curling at the corners.

I actually got this play mat not for a kid, but for our senior dog, who has difficulty getting traction on our hardwood floors (plus I want something that will be soft and cushioning on his sweet old bones when he lies down). Little did I know it would become the enthusiastic playplace for our two younger dogs, as well!
This arrived densely vacuum-packed in a very heavy box. It weighs more than you think it will, so be prepared: this is a bit cumbersome! It is also wrapped in a bag, within another bag, within a THIRD bag, within a box, within another box and generates probably over ~100 square feet of thick plastic waste. It was so, SO unnecessary and made me really sad. I hope the manufacturer gets rid of that practice completely: the outer two plastic layers served absolutely no purpose (at least the cardboard is recyclable). Be advised it also takes a while to puff back up to its full thickness, and does give off an unpleasant chemical smell that dissipates after a day or two.
Once we got this in place, it’s actually been a big hit with my pets. They like when we fold it up into a “tunnel” (pictured) they can burrow into or hop on top of to collapse it. When spread completely out, it’s a HUGE mat that covers a large area. It is very thick and cushy to lie on. This definitely makes floor play more comfortable! The material is soft and miky, very pleasant to touch, however I feel it would not be pleasant to clean. This is supposedly mildly water-resistant (I personally wouldn’t want to test that) but is spot-clean only, which is tough when you have kids, who are perpetually sticky. I cover this with an equally large waterproof blanket for my senior dog to lie on it.
Overall, this is a really nice play mat. It’s thick, high-quality, and oh-so-soft. However, it’s also not easy to clean and is very wastefully triple-wrapped in plastic. I do not necessarily feel it merits the much higher price vs. other, similar mats I’ve seen.

Thick, oversized, and totally worth the splurge
This play mat is one of those “you get what you pay for” products in the best way. Yes, it’s a little pricier than a lot of others out there, but the quality absolutely matches the cost.
The first thing I noticed was just how huge it is. It easily fills a large play space or playpen area and gives kids plenty of room to spread out, roll around, and actually play without constantly ending up on the hard floor.
The thickness is what really sets this apart though. At 1.3 inches, it’s noticeably thicker than other mats I’ve tried, and you can feel the difference immediately. It has that perfect balance where it’s soft and cushioned for tummy time and crawling, but still supportive enough for those wobbly first steps. It feels safe, sturdy, and honestly just more premium overall.
The surface is soft with almost a velvety feel, which makes it really comfortable for babies spending a lot of time on the floor. I also love that it stays in place well thanks to the non slip backing. No constant adjusting or bunching up, even with active kids moving all over it.
Cleaning is simple for everyday messes, just a quick wipe down, although I do wish it was fully machine washable. That’s probably my only minor downside, but not enough to take away from how great it is overall.
If you’re debating the price, I’d say it’s 100% worth it for the size, thickness, and overall quality.
Like a large, plush, padded rug
This play mat is even better than hoped for. Large. So nicely large. Like a large area rug. But plush. Feels as if the padding is a type of memory foam – I believe it was called elastic foam. Firm while being soft, moldable. Has some give. Whole mat is nicely bound between a soft minky soft top cover and a slip resistant textured bottom. Tried to show in an attached picture – both sides folded on itself. Would make an excellent clean, padded, soft play space for a learning to move and walk little one. I got it for when we have slumber parties in the TV room. To go on the wood floors. To play on, add their sleeping mats and blankets, watch movies on. Plenty of space for us all. Arrived vacuum sealed in a bag, in a bag, in a bag then slipped in a square box. Kind of fun getting it out, watching it grow. Rolled it up when not in use to keep clean. Vacuums up well.
