Easily the BEST Open earbuds on the market for zero latency gaming. And THE BEST open earbuds period. Though they still have a few issues.
They sound great. They can get very loud. (An issue with some other open earbuds)
Rock solid connection. For some reason all other gaming earbuds have extreme connection issues. I would not recommend ANY of them for reliable gaming and discord. So these are the first to work as advertised. And so far after 16 hours over 2 days. Rock solid.
Range is fine. It was better before the firmware update I did March 29th. I was all over my house with perfect audio 100 feet away though 4 walls. Now it make it about 30 feet with some flickering in the signal. But in the same room, or if the bathroom is close. Perfect.
Audio. For those who are closer to the audiophile end of things. These are solid, while lacking in bass. As most all open back options do. But even then, they can hit some bass depending on the situation. Overall a more sibilant pair of cans. But it does the work to bring in the low end fine.
The microphones are fine. Not the best audio quality. Roomy and reflective sound. But it’s clear and it works for communication. I prefer this over the nasal and enclosed feeling of Samsung and Apple buds.
Fit. Comfortable and light. Slightly more obvious on my ear than Bose or Arc open buds. But I would call these a 8.5/10 comfort if those are 10/10 And what good is comfort if you’re laggy and have poor connectivity like Arc and Bose.
The 2 biggest issues:
Multiple connections. There is no way to control when it switches. At all. So if it switched to your phone mid game. There is no way to switch it back without turning off BT on your phone. This needs a fix ASAP!
Multiple connections part 2. For this price point. It should be able to do BT and 2.5 simultaneously like Steelseries. No excuses. A$100 steel series can do it. This needs to. Hopefully they fix this in the next version.
Software. You have to use a website interface to manage them AND it needs to install 2-3 different apps so the website works. What a STUPID idea. And 1/2 the settings do not hold. Give me an app or fix this website to actually work.
These are THE BEST open back earbuds on the market. Period. They still need work in hardware and software. But there is nothing that comes close right now. Especially for gaming.
Good ear buds, you pay the ASUS tax though
Finally: over-ear buds that have good sound, last a long time (if you turn off RGB), are both BT and 2.4ghz, and finally a brand that puts a place for the dongle in the case itself. They are ASUS so you are paying a premium, but I think they’re worth it. The mic doesn’t sound too bad either.
It’s a very interesting design; you can hear what’s going on in the room around you, but the sound from the earpieces is always clearly front and center. I have a couple of other conventional earbuds, and usually either the noise canceling was lacking, or there was not a good way to switch to a non-cancelling setup that allowed you to hear what was going on in the room. This doesn’t even attempt to be noise canceling, and I think it still does the job better.
One complaint is that the Bluetooth connectivity sucks – I don’t mean just the pairing (on a relatively recent ROG laptop, no less), but even if they’re already paired, you need to sit with the case open until the thing connects on startup, and then for another indeterminate length of time for it to register as a sound device. Considering that my other pair of Cetra True Wireless buds connected without issue, I have to wonder what’s going on with these.
Also, Asus got rid of Armoury Crate moving forward – which would be cause for celebration save for the fact that they replaced it with something categorically worse. Full disclosure, these are the only devices I have that use the new, entirely web-based manager (Gear Link), so other pieces of hardware might work better – but for my part, Gear Link had me pining for the days of Armoury Crate.
