AMFD-1 AFM DFM DOD Disabler Module GM Silverado Sierra Yukon Escalade Rating
This is a plug-in AFM/DFM/DOD disabler designed for GM trucks and SUVs like Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade with 4.3L–6.2L engines. Installation is as simple as it gets—plug it into the OBD-II port and start the vehicle. No tuning, no wiring, no ECU flashing.
The purpose is straightforward: it prevents the engine from switching into cylinder deactivation modes (V4 / partial V8 operation), keeping it in full-cylinder operation all the time. That means no AFM/DFM transitions while cruising, which many owners install it specifically to avoid the hesitation, shudder, and long-term lifter concerns tied to those systems.
In real-world use, the main differences people notice are smoother highway driving and more consistent throttle response. You also avoid the constant V8 V4 cycling that GM uses for fuel economy. However, fuel economy will usually drop slightly since the engine no longer shuts cylinders off.
From a reliability standpoint, the logic behind these devices is preventative rather than performance-based. AFM/DFM systems rely on specialized lifters that repeatedly collapse and re-engage, which is a known failure point in these engines over time. Some owners use disablers specifically to avoid that operating cycle entirely.
Installation is reversible—you can unplug it anytime, and the truck returns to factory behavior. That’s part of why these are popular: no permanent modification is required.
    Downsides:
Slight reduction in fuel economy (expected)
Some vehicles may disable auto stop/start behavior inconsistently
Doesn’t “fix” mechanical issues—only changes engine operation mode
Effectiveness can vary depending on model year and ECM behavior
Important reality check: this is not a mechanical AFM delete. It does not replace lifters or change engine hardware. There is ongoing debate—some mechanics argue it helps reduce risk by avoiding cylinder deactivation cycles, while others point out it doesn’t eliminate underlying mechanical wear potential entirely.
Overall, this is a simple, low-effort plug-in mod that changes how the engine behaves more than how it’s built. If your goal is smoother full-time V8 operation and avoiding AFM behavior, it does what it claims—but it should be treated as a convenience/reliability preference, not a guaranteed engine protection upgrade.

    Better than expected
This was designed fairly well and easy to use. We have a v6 and we decided to give this one a go. I’m surprised that it has been helping with its power while driving. It’s definitely worth the money to have and it works well for my Chevy.
