I work in TV/video production and lately have been finding myself in situations where the primary rig is a phone (S25 Ultra) because it’s a compact way to do 8K video on the run.
Because of this I’ve had a lot of the little lav kits, external recorders, and the like pass through my kit. Shure is a standard in audio production so this was an interesting mic, especially after seeing a few review videos of what it can do.
The first place I used this was at Toy Fair 2026. I paired it with a cold shoe boompole slotted to a phone cage and a USB-C extension cable and it honestly is one of the best mic solutions I’ve ever used for on the go interview shoots where I don’t have an audio person actually manning a boom and something like a 416 shotgun mic.
The mic works by just plugging it in but there is an app for adjusting settings. The app has easy to understand settings which you set depending on the type of mic performance you need. When you close the app it saves these settings to the mic so that they stay when you switch to a camera app. My camera app of choice is the Blackmagic camera app and it recognizes this mic in its settings no problem. Just pick it as the audio source and you’re good to go!
The people talking in proximity to the microphone are clean and easy to understand. I should note that this was an indoor event but it did have basically hundreds of people speaking in close proximity to us and the mic performed amazingly!
I also tested it recording some song ideas on my own time and it does a fantastic job clearly picking up an acoustic guitar and singer when set on a table nearby. Additional, I can see this being useful for a quick and dirty podcast type situation with a group seated at a table and, also, for audio only interviews/press gaggle situations where you just need a good mic near someone speaking for your soundbites.
So, to recap- the mic sounds great but, even though it’s made to go right into your phone, some accessories I’d recommend would be a phone case/cage to mount a coldshoe boom pole to and a USB-C extension cable. The boom pole set up is more a “nice to have if you need it” thing but the extension cable would enable to you also have a host use this as something of a wired handheld mic if you need/want that on your shoots.

PROS: sonido excelente, muy definido y con bastante cuerpo para un micro tan pequeo. Desde la app se pueden configurar fcilmente los 4 modos de grabacin. El ultimo (todo a la vez) ofrece resultados espectaculares como micro de ambiente. Muy porttil
CONTRAS: carece de salida de auriculares. Al usarlo con Iphone 17 Pro con la Blackmagic App slo queda monitorizar por blut (una cutrada). La app es indispensable, pero no funciona en Androids anteriores al 13! Otra cutrada
I am absolutely blown away by the sound quality on the MV88 USB-C microphone. It REALLY DOES sound like a recording studio! How is there only one review for this product? It’s been absolutely amazing for recording crystal clear audio to get perfect transcriptions for AI. The only minor downside is the app had minor glitches when downloading, where I couldn’t access the microphone settings. But after re-downloading the app, that fixed the issue. Overall, the MV88 USB-C is the most useful, versatile, and highest sound quality microphone I’ve ever had!
This little puppy is a voice actors secret weapon! Absolutely incredible! We’ve recorded auditions on hikes, in the car, out and about. It’s perfect for the freedom of travel! Thank you Shure!!
I’m really impressed with this little powerhouse of a mic. The audio and video software for iOS is equally impressive. Such a simple solution and sounds great even for very loud sources like a marching snare drum indoors!
