Nice upgrade for remote control and steadier temps
I installed this on my pellet grill to replace an older controller, and the setup was easier than I expected. It plugged in without much trouble, and the app connection let me check temps and make adjustments without standing next to the grill the whole time. That has been especially helpful during longer cooks like pork shoulder and ribs when I want to keep an eye on things from inside the house.
The temperature control feels more consistent than what I was using before, with fewer swings once the grill settles in. I also like the extra alerts for probe or component issues since that gives a little more confidence during longer smoking sessions. The winter mode is a nice touch too if you cook outside in colder weather.
The only drawback is that the compatibility list is long enough that you really need to double check your model before ordering. Once installed though, it has been a practical upgrade for regular grilling and smoking.
Awesome Upgrade for My Pit Boss Lexingto
I added this to my Pit Boss Lexington, and it has been a fantastic upgrade. It works exactly as described and was easy to set up. The best part is being able to use the app while cooking, which makes monitoring and adjusting things much easier.
Having app control really adds convenience and flexibility to the grill since you can monitor temperatures and manage your cook right from your phone.
Overall, it’s been a great addition to my smoker and makes cooking with the Lexington even better. Highly recommend if you want to bring app control to your setup!
The brain transplant my Pit Boss desperately needed!
If you’ve been struggling with the standard “P-Setting” controller and those annoying 25–50 degree temperature swings, stop hesitating and buy this. I installed this Model A10 PID controller on my 6 year old Pit boss 1230, and it has completely transformed my grilling experience.
The PID Difference:
The biggest win here is the temperature stability. Unlike the old-school controllers that just dump pellets based on a timer, this PID logic actually “thinks.” It adjusts the auger and fan speed in real-time. My grill now holds within 5F of the target temp, even on a windy and cold day. No more massive spikes that ruin a delicate brisket or dry out a rack of ribs.
WiFi & App Connectivity:
Setting up the WiFi was surprisingly painless. Being able to monitor the grill and the two meat probes from my phone while I’m inside the house (or even at the store) is a total game-changer. The app alerts me when the meat hits the target temp, which means no more running back and forth to the patio every 20 minutes. It also shows the temp the grill is at and has a nice graph to show fluctuations. Within the app you can also set the size of your grill to help with temperature control. I also like the timer feature so you can set a timer to remind you to wrap the ribs after 3 hours. One down side – The app isn’t rated very high and makes you watch a 5 second ad when you open it. Despite this I have not had any issues with the app itself.
Installation:
It’s a direct “plug-and-play” fit for the rectangular housing. Make sure your grill has the rectangular housing and not the controller thats rectangular with slanted sides as it will not fit that version! It took me about 40 minutes total, including a 5 minute YouTube to watch hows its done. Just pop out 8 screws and remove the bottom panel and I had direct access to the old controller. Then is just snipping 2 zip ties, depressing the 6 clips along the front edge of the controller, sliding out the old controller and unplugging the wiring. The wiring is color-coded, so as long as you can match a white wire to a white wire and a purple to a purple, you’ll be fine. It fits perfectly into the existing slot on my Pit Boss, no cutting or drilling required. I highly recommend getting the grill in a spot you can lay down on your back as it is a small area and not a lot of working room. The old connections were all quite tight and required some finessing to pull apart.
Pros:
Precision: 1F increments instead of huge 25 jumps.
Visibility: The full-color LCD screen is way easier to read in direct sunlight than the old red LED displays. It has a nice little bump out on the top to block the sun from glare.
Efficiency: Because it manages the burn better, I’ve actually noticed I’m using slightly fewer pellets per cook.
Noise: I think my favorite part about this controller is how quite my grill now gets at times. With my old controller, the fan ran on high at all times. With the new controller there is a good portion of the time where the grill is just lightly puffing on and off. It makes my patio far quieter and easier to converse on.
Final Verdict:
This is the single best upgrade you can give your pellet grill. It takes a budget-friendly smoker and gives it the brains of a $1,500 professional rig. Highly recommended!
Nice quality Easy install
I received this controller specifically for my Pit Boss Pro grill, and I am absolutely thrilled with its performance! The plug in system is color coding helps for install and it does come with a nice set of instructions. The unit fits perfectly and snugly into the designated hole, providing a secure and professional look. One of the best features is the new, vibrant, and clear digital color display; it’s a significant upgrade and makes monitoring the grill’s settings a breeze.
While it’s designed with safety in mind and doesn’t allow to turn the grill on remotely, you can still safely turn the grill off remotely. A major plus is that it comes with three highly accurate temperature probes: two for monitoring the internal temperatures of your food and one specifically for the grill itself.
Honestly, I am completely astonished at how useful this controller is, and I regret not getting one of these sooner. If I were to ever have another grill, I would without a doubt purchase another one of these controllers. I truly hope that this review proves to be informative and helpful to anyone considering making this purchase.
