GREAT UPGRADE to oem older controlle
Great Upgrade !
We ordered this controller to upgrade our older controller on the Pit Boss pellet smoker that we have (our specific model is PB820PS1). The original controller did not incorporate WiFi technology.
Key Incite Points:
– look at the form factor of the controller you have. This is for the rectangular shape, not the trapezoid shape with angled sides).
– has a slight “brow” for added sun shading on the display. This is a good simple additional charatcteristic.
– connections are matching oem for “plug and play” installation.
– you will need to do your own due diligence for your specific model Pit Boss pellet smoker for your specific nuts and bolts installation process. i.e. how perform the slight disassembly/assembly to install. It is not difficult and most will not need instructions.
– instructions are thorough and comprehensive FOR THE CONTROLLER ONLY, not the phone app. See our pics here.

Awesome upgrade for my smoke
I picked this up to swap out the old standard controller on my Pit Boss. I do a lot of long overnight smokes with pork shoulders and briskets, and I really wanted the ability to check the grill temp from my phone without having to walk outside in the cold every hour. The installation was pretty straightforward. It took me about twenty minutes to unscrew the old board, unplug the wires, and hook everything up to this new one. It fit perfectly right into the original spot.
The display screen is bright and easy to read, even when the sun is hitting it. Hooking it up to the WiFi took a couple of tries to get the app synced, but once it connected, it stayed stable. Now I can just sit on the couch and keep an eye on the meat probes and adjust the temperature as needed.
It is a great value if you want to modernize an older grill without replacing the whole unit. The convenience factor alone is huge for me. I would absolutely order this again to make my weekend cooking a little lazier and a lot more controlled.

This replacement control board worked perfectly for my grill. Installation was fairly straightforward and everything lined up well with the existing connections. Pop old one out pop new one in, really easy. Once installed it powered up without any issues. The controls respond quickly and the display is clear. Get this and enjoy
I got this to replace the original control panel on my Pit Boss pellet smoker. I like the idea of remote connectivity via WiFi to my smoker. Once installed the panel works as described. Allowing me to adjust and monitor the temperature, smoke level, and time. Setting up the app and connecting to my WiFi wasn’t difficult. The instructions that came with the unit weren’t complete. Enclosed was six pages of instructions on connecting and setting up the app. Once I was able to use the app I found the manual on it. The actual manual is 12 pages long. I printed the missing pages to complete the document. These pages were about how to use and program the control panel. The customer should get the a complete document. The panel installation instructions were lacking. I had to search the internet to find instructions on how to install the panel. My concern was how to best access the existing panel and its wiring. The only installation instructions included were a series of pictures saying a particular color wire to a specific place after the old was removed. Once I got the old panel out and the new panel installed it worked great. I believe this to be a durable, well made product. I would definitely recommend.

Once this PID WiFi controller was installed, the grill responded quickly to temperature adjustments. The PID control is precise, maintaining steady temperatures without the fluctuations I sometimes experienced with the stock controller. Using the app to monitor and control the grill remotely is a game-changer—it’s easy to set the temperature, check the meat probe readings, and even make adjustments mid-cook without being tied to the grill.

Look for “GrillrG Control” in your app store. It is well-maintained and has some great features like a countdown and count-up timer, along with system checks for Ignition, Fan, Motor, and RTD circuits, and an off button by sliding a knob thing. It also has a screen lock, super useful.
