While it might not be the absolute top-of-the-line model available, it serves my current needs perfectly and feels much more robust than my previous equipment. This makes it a great choice for anyone looking to start the hobby, or even as a gift, since you don’t have to source extra accessories separately.
From a technical standpoint, the features are well-implemented. The LCD readout is crisp and easy to interpret, which I appreciate when scanning different environments. I particularly like how the sensitivity can be fine-tuned to minimize false alarms, allowing me to focus on actual targets rather than distractions. At less than three pounds, the main unit is quite lightweight, making long sessions in the field much more manageable. The adjustable shaft and underarm support provide much-needed ergonomics that prevent fatigue during extended use. Great metal detector and a lot of fun to use. The extra accessories are a nice bonus, and the detector definitely works — I found a beer can buried about 35 cm underground. For one exciting moment, I was convinced I had discovered ancient treasure but apparently history also includes aluminum.
Even though it wasn’t gold, it was still really entertaining. Just the possibility of finding something makes the whole experience fun. Great for outdoor treasure hunting, exercise, and occasionally being emotionally fooled by buried trash.
Ready to Use Out of the Box and Great for Beach Treasure Hunting with Helpful Depth Readings
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this metal detector. Right out of the box, it comes with the batteries included, which meant I could assemble it and start using it immediately instead of making an extra trip to the store. That may seem like a small thing, but it’s always appreciated when a product is truly ready to use upon arrival.
Compared to another metal detector I own, this one feels much more stable and solidly built. The shaft and handle have a firmer construction with less flex, which makes it feel more comfortable and confidence-inspiring during longer hunts. The controls are easy to navigate, and the large display is clear and easy to read while outdoors.
One feature I really appreciate is that it provides an estimate on the type of metal and target range.This helps you get a better idea of how deep an item may be buried before you start digging, which can save a lot of unnecessary effort and make searches much more efficient. It’s a surprisingly useful feature, especially when you’re covering a larger area and trying to decide which signals are worth investigating first.
I’ve primarily used it at the beach, and it has performed very well there. The detector feels responsive, and I appreciate having multiple search modes available depending on what I’m looking for. The waterproof search coil is also a nice feature when working near wet sand or shallow water.

The package contains x2 9V batteries; one for the hand wand, and one for the regular detector. The display is not very bright and is hard to seen when the sun is out. The package contains a compact folding shovel. However, the blind rivet on the shovel does not look like it will hold up over time. Also included in the package are a pair of wired headphones. The dector has controls that allow you to adjust the sensitivity for better accuracy. The detector is light weight and easy to walk around with. The box has a recycle symbol for Li-Ion; however, I don’t think this device uses Li-Ion.

This metal detector makes a strong first impression because it comes as a full starter kit rather than just a detector in a box. It may pick up small targets better than a basic toy-grade detector, but that does not automatically make it a serious, dedicated gold machine.
Overall, this looks like a good pick for a beginner or casual hobbyist who wants an easy-to-use detector with helpful extras and enough features to grow into. It seems best suited for learning the hobby, searching parks and beaches, and having some fun with family rather than replacing a high-end specialist detector. If it proves stable, responsive, and reasonably accurate in normal conditions, that alone would make it a satisfying setup for the price range.
This YDFunHowie brand metal detector was a pleasant surprise! With the help of a long-time friend, professional geological engineers and avid rock hound/gold prospector, we tested this YDFunHowie metal detector against his legacy name-brand metal detector as well as two other, more modern metal detectors. What we learned was that technology advancements have enhanced not just the capabilities of metal detectors, but their ease of use. This particular metal detector was exceptionally easy to assemble and set up. The digital controls are reasonably straightforward and provide real versatility in terms of discrimination. We tested a variety of metals, from tiny gold nuggets to mild steel nuts and bolts. We were able to set discrimination criteria to reduce the amount of ‘clutter’ and focus on target metals. The pinpoint feature was also reasonably precise as is the included positioning rod. This entire metal detector fit into the included carry bag and can be disassemble and reassembled in a couple of minutes. Couple with its light weight (3 lbs) this detector is very convenient to carry around or leave in your vehicle for spur of the moment detecting – like finding a dropped key at night!
Advertised as having “Simple operation logic designed specifically for beginners.”, it is much more capable than a simple beginners metal detector. Competitively price it is a good value.
If this YDFunHowie brand metal detector holds up over time, it would merit an increase to a 5 star rating. Out of the box it is a solid 4 stars for capability and value.
Comfortable and accurate
This is an impressive set that comes with everything you need to get started with a new hobby. It’s ready to use right out of the box and seems to be very accurate. It takes some practice to really start to recognize the sounds and tones but once you master it, it becomes intuitive. The battery lasts a long time and it functions well on a variety of terrain. I’ve used it in the sand, on fields and even in the snow and it has proven to be fun and accurate in each situation. It’s reasonably priced for a good setup.
