Great working kids metal detector, it actually works
So my wife got this in for the kids and they’ve been having a blast with it. It works great and it has a very simple operation basically it has two knobs one for sensitivity and one for volume. It has a little screen that kind of shows you signal strength and when it detects metal, it’s the kind of LCD that you can see in the sun but it also has a backlight so you can see it at night, And it folds in for storage so kids don’t break it. It’s actually made very well the plastic is thick on all the housings The pole was made well also, doesn’t look like anything that’s going to break easily a child would have to be extremely rough with it. The little garden tools it comes with are another story they are although pretty thick and durable for plastic tools they are in fact plastic tools which I don’t think are worth much but good enough for kids. The metal detector itself though is awesome and it works great included is a picture of all the “treasures” My daughter found in our yard. I’m not sure how deep it to text but it does go down at least a few inches we actually found a practical use for it while the kids are out playing I was taking down Christmas lights and had lost a metal stake out in the yard somewhere that was driven in Wife grabbed this metal detector and found it right away, it was a tiny u-shaped wire stake so it’s pretty sensitive. Great deal for a working metal detector that kids can use we’re very happy with it.

I’ve tried this metal detector out a few times and it appears to be made of high enough quality materials. The box it comes in is just a plain unmarked cardboard box, so it wouldn’t be the best as a gift presentation, but the contents inside are good and it’s fun for my kids
The 6.5″ search coil is IP68-rated, so shallow water, beaches, and muddy backyards are all fair game. It uses a supposedly advanced DSP chip for detection accuracy across metals like gold, silver, coins, iron, and aluminum, with adjustable sensitivity so you can dial in on smaller targets. The LCD display and audible alerts make it easy enough that kids can actually use it without needing a manual. One-button operation means less frustration and more actual hunting.
The value is good for what you get. One tip: adjust the sensitivity down if you’re getting too many false alerts in highly mineralized soil or near metal-rich areas, since that’s usually the culprit. Overall a solid pick for outdoor family activities.
Great kit for kids!
My little science nerd absolutely loves this! He’s in the gifted/advanced first grade class at school and they are learning about metals in the Earth, their properties, and all kinds of fun facts. He’s already begging me to take it to school to show his class, but I told him maybe later….he settled on going out to try and find the survey markers for our yard, but I advised him against digging it up (ground is still frozen so he wouldn’t get far even if he tried).
It’s small enough that it’s not too strenuous for him to carry by himself, but he is a little disappointed after a few minutes at the simplicity of the LCD panel. He got to play with one before that had approximately depth and metal identification on it. However, he knows that this is a ‘starter kit’ to get kids interested and he probably won’t be pursuing it further as he’s already looking towards the stars to find career….well, either that or chemical engineering (they get to blow stuff up, Daddy!).
Overall, he likes it and is already planning on packing to our beach trip later this summer. I’ll probably take a handful of various coins with us to toss them out over an area along a less-used portion of the beach for him to practice on.
Great Starter Metal Detector for Kids — Simple and Fun to Use
This metal detector is definitely sized for kids, which makes it easy for younger users to handle without it feeling heavy or overwhelming. My child had a lot of fun using it and was able to find obvious metal objects pretty quickly. In fact, he figured out how to turn it on before I did, which says a lot about how simple and kid-friendly it is.
Like any metal detector, it does require some patience to find smaller or deeper items, but that’s part of the learning experience. For kids who enjoy treasure hunting or exploring outside, it’s a great way to keep them engaged.
The included tools are made from a hard material but don’t feel dangerous, so they’re safe enough for kids to use while digging around in dirt or sand. I can see this working especially well at the beach if your child would rather search for “treasure” than just swim.
Functionally, it does what it’s supposed to do — it finds metal. It also includes a volume control and sensitivity knob, which lets you adjust how it responds depending on where you’re searching.

A child's toy but fu
I like to metal detect and have a couple of nice ones but my 5-year-old grandson expressed an interest in his birthday is coming up so I thought this would be a perfect little extra gift and a way for him and I too Bond over something together. It’s obviously not a professional type metal detector it’s very much a toy. But I think he’ll enjoy it, but it really is a toy. I think he’ll get some enjoyment out of finding things but I’m hoping it will Peak his interest so he’ll be able to move up into something more serious in the future.
Pros: it’s a nice complete kit. Comes with everything. And it’s very lightweight and small so a five-year-old won’t find it too large.
Cons: if you’re expecting a real metal detector, this isn’t it.
