These are pretty nice bird houses if they hold up in weather. The add said made in USA but on box said made in china. That upset me. False advertising.
Ideal size and shape for purple martins, very simple construction and assembly
These purple martin gourds are very straightforward and practical. They’re a simple two-piece clamshell design that screws together securely, which also makes them easy to open between seasons for inspection and cleaning. Hanging them from a post is simple, and everything feels functional rather than overbuilt.
They’re not as meticulously finished as the original SuperGourds, but realistically I don’t think the martins care about brand names or price tags. The color looks right, the entrance hole shape is appropriate, and the crescent opening can easily be punched out to a perfectly round hole if you prefer that style.
The only feature I wish they included is a small external perch stick. Other than that, they check all the basic boxes for martin housing. It’s still early in the season, so time will tell how attractive they are, but I’ll be hanging these alongside my purple martin condo and will gladly update this review with turnout results and photos once the martins (hopefully) move in.
