I really like the windows and the big porthole for a door.
This FAUBIC Large Squirrel Houses for Outside is really large. We have many squirrels so I thought way not give them a home. This house is quality, made from thick wood and was really easy to put together. I could see the squirrels having a great time in this and I do not see any birds trying to take it over. I really like the windows and the big porthole for a door as it gives it such a nice appearance. I really like the fact that it straps around the tree and we had no problems with putting it around our old cedar tree in the bamboo, where they already hang out. For such a large wooden home, I think the price is good.
Great price, solidly buil
I have a collection of squirrel nesting boxes around our suburban home, so I decided to add another. We had issues with them trying to gnaw their way into our soffits, and giving them alternate nesting locations seems to have stopped them. This one differs from the others in that it is made of laminated plywood. The laminate arrived with a few chips in it from a dull saw blade, so we’ll see if it lifts in the weather; only time will tell. Other than that, this is solidly built. The interlocking puzzle joints are machined precisely so leave the screws a little loose until you get it altogether so that you have some wiggle during assembly. It would be nice to be able to remove the roof for cleaning without having to disassemble it. My other concern is the hanging straps, which I worry squirrels might chew through. The rest of my houses are hung with lag bolts, so I may add one at the top and one at the bottom for my peace of mind. The reinforced entry was a great addition, since this house doesn’t have a protected entry to keep other critters out. Be sure to research the direction to mount this and the height before wasting your investment. At $70, this squirrel house is less expensive than others I’ve purchased and much less expensive than the same offering on another site.
Adorable, Well-Designed Squirrel Box – Great Value with a Few Assembly Notes
I recently fell down the rabbit hole of watching squirrel box cameras on TikTok and became completely obsessed—they’re just so adorable. Living in the Pacific Northwest, we have plenty of squirrels in our yard, so I thought it would be perfect to install a nesting box and (hopefully!) host our own little squirrel family.
After researching different options, I chose this one because it’s affordably priced, has a really cute modern design, and most importantly, uses tree-friendly mounting straps so it won’t damage the tree. That was a big plus for me.
Assembly was very straightforward and only took about 10–15 minutes. The included screws and Allen wrench made it easy, though my hands were a little sore by the end. I really like the puzzle-style design—everything fits together cleanly and feels secure. One small note: the pieces are labeled by panel name, but the instructions refer to them by letters, so you have to flip back and forth to match them up. Also, one important detail that isn’t clearly stated is that the right panel has a slanted edge that must align with the slanted edge of the back panel. I missed that at first, and when the roof didn’t fit properly, I realized I had the front panel oriented incorrectly. Once corrected, everything fit perfectly.
The size is actually larger than I expected, which I’m very happy about. It should give the squirrels plenty of room. The slanted roof design is great for rainy climates like ours, and I appreciate the ventilation holes to help prevent moisture buildup and mold. I also like that there was no noticeable chemical odor from the wood—I’m hoping that means it’s safe and untreated for wildlife.
One thing I do wish it had is a hinged roof. Currently, it’s secured with screws and fits very snugly, so accessing the inside for cleaning or adding nesting materials would require removing the screws. A hinged design would have made maintenance much easier.
I’m currently researching a small camera to install inside before mounting it, as well as appropriate nesting materials (including chew-safe items so they don’t gnaw on the box itself). Once it’s a little warmer and fully set up, we’ll be mounting it in our yard. I’m really hoping we’ll get some cozy squirrel tenants soon! If anything changes, I’ll update my review—but so far, I’m very happy with this purchase.
Shouldn’t a squirrel be reviewing this?
I first thought, there’s no way a wooden squirrel house can worth what they’re asking. Now I can kind of see some justification. It’s a pretty substantial thing. It’s made of laminated plywood (as opposed to particle board or MDF). I don’t know how water resistant this is though. All hardware and an Allen wrench are included. The directions are clear. It’s easy to assemble, just take your time and pay close attention to the pictures. Think each step through before assembling each piece. It took me about 20 minutes.
ASSEMBLY TIP: When you attach the sides, do not tighten them up. Leave them a little loose until you get the top on and tightened up. The top was difficult to get flush into the groove. These are very tight tolerances.
Assembly still went smoothly and some squirrel will have a nice house. It’s pretty large. Pay attention to the measurements on the product page.
It’s a well made thing, but it’s just a precut wooden box. I’ll let you decide if it’s worth the price.
