Thick foam play mat for babies
This extra large play mat from Chiki Star is a thick, foam playmat that can cover a huge space, but still fold back up to a reasonable size to tuck away back in the bag it comes in if you want to use it on the go.
I will say that the listing pictures make this look more like a blanket, especially with the one picture showing an edge folded over. This is not something that you can do with the actual play mat. It’s thick foam, more akin to foam squares that have been attached together, and you definitely wouldn’t be able to easily fold back a corner.
That said, I do think that this is a more convenient option than the typical foam square puzzle piece mats out there, which can be sort of a pain to pack up and put away. This mat folds out easily, and folds up pretty easily too, as long as you know the right folds to make – you want to fold it in half length wise first, and then the rest will fold up easily along the seams of the play mat. If you try to fold it without folding it in half length wise first, you’re going to struggle like I did lol.
It’s easy to clean messes off the mat with a paper towel, or for stronger messes, with some general purpose spray, it’s quite easy to clean. It’s got a great amount of padding to help protect babies from falls or from hitting their head on hard surfaces. The double sided design is great, and both designs are super cute, perfect for any baby or toddler. I feel like the price point is pretty good for how large and thick this playmat is. I honestly think this is a great alternative to the typical foam squares, since it’s much easier to set up and put away, and probably more durable long term, too.
Thick, Spacious & Perfect for Outdoor Summer Play
got this extra-large play mat to use on our deck during the summer for my 1.5-year-old when we’re outside, and it has been such a great purchase.
First of all, the size is amazing. It gives her plenty of room to crawl, sit, and play comfortably. The 0.6 thickness really makes a difference. It’s nicely padded and gives me peace of mind knowing if she tumbles, her head is protected. It definitely feels thicker than other mats I’ve owned.
The quality feels great, especially for the price. The foam is dense and supportive but still soft. It lays flat and creates a stable surface to walk or sit on. The stitched edging around the mat makes it look neat and well finished, not cheap.
I also love that it’s waterproof and super easy to wipe clean — which is essential with toddlers. Spills don’t soak in at all. Being foldable is another big plus. It folds up easily for storage and doesn’t take up much space when we’re not using it.
It is reversible with two different prints, which is a cute bonus. The designs are bright and fun without being overwhelming.
The only small thing to note is that since it folds, the crease lines can collect a bit of dust, especially outdoors. A quick sweep or wipe solves that easily.
Overall, this is a high-quality, thick, protective play mat at a great price. I’m going to be babysitting my great niece three days a week when her mom goes back to work. I’ve acquired a few things to make her feel happy and comfortable while she is in my care, including this padded play mat. It works perfectly with the baby gate playpen I will be using.
My kids are grown, so I wanted something I could easily fold up and store away to keep my home from looking like a preschool when my niece is not here. This mat is exactly what I was looking for. It comes with a handy storage tote that zips closed and has handles for carrying, and at just over 3 pounds, moving it around is a breeze. The storage tote is sturdy and the plastic zipper slides smoothly. Folding up the mat takes just a few seconds and it slips into the storage tote easily with no struggling to make it fit. I love the easy-in, easy-out storage!
The mat itself is quite large and will provide my niece with plenty of room to crawl and play. I measured it at 75 1/2″ long and 58″ wide when it’s open. Folded up in the tote, it measures 29″ long, 16″ high, and 6″in depth. The mat is over a 1/2″ thick, made with dense foam, and should protect her from any bumps as she starts to navigate and crawl. Most of my floors, except for one large area rug, are tile or laminate, so this gives baby some added protection and gives her auntie some peace of mind.
The mat is reversible, with two different bright, vibrant patterns to choose from. I love that there is a bit of texture to both sides and believe it’s better than a completely smooth surface for little hands and feet to grip. The material is tough and waterproof so I can wipe it down with a wet soapy cloth and allow it to dry before storing it. The ease of cleaning is a real bonus for me. The edges are finished with some thick, quality fabric stitched on and it gives the mat a nice finished look.
Neither the storage bag nor the mat have any scent, which I appreciate. I think the price is terrific and it’s such a good value for an item I expect to get several years of use from. This should keep baby safe and comfortable well into her toddler stage and I’m so looking forward to having a little one around the house again.
