Worked on Windows 11 for me, but load discs carefully
Yes, these are compatible with Windows 11. Google “VLC and Blu-Ray”.
Some tech work is required, and will be required, for any of these blu-ray players. The USB ports work just fine on it, and the little ‘eject’ symbol on the top is the actual eject button.
I’m not giving it 4 stars because of the software things, but instead because there is very little space tolerance around the entire disc. There’s no room for error, and even picking it up while trying to load it can give you a scratching sound across the disc. It’s fine if you leave it on the table, and otherwise it works great, but that’s a concern.
This is currently priced at $54, which is a fair price for USB blu-ray drives these days.
Convenient and Durable
The design is compact and stylish. It’s easy to carry and doesn’t take up desk space. I use it daily for Blu-ray movies and data discs. The SD/TF card slots are convenient, and it works perfectly with my laptop and desktop.
Extremely practical.
I’m very impressed with this 8-in-1 external Blu-ray/DVD drive. It’s slim, lightweight, and portable, making it perfect for work or travel. It perfectly supports Windows, Linux, and Mac OS. This drive runs quietly and efficiently, without overheating even after prolonged use. It’s plug-and-play, very convenient, and has a premium feel. With it, accessing media files, backing up files, and installing software have become much easier.
Compatible with Windows 10 and 11
Straightforward little player that is plug and play compatible. The very slim drive has an internal cable that has both USB-A and USB-C connectors at the end. Depending on your computer, you may need to connect an external power supply to the unit via USB. I had to for my desktop but not for my laptop. The device reads the discs in a reasonable amount of time. It is a bit on the noisy side and a touch slow to load but not a huge deal. Comes with a carrying case and when connected to the computer, acts as a port expander giving you 2 USB-A and 2 USB-C ports on the top. This is a very nice touch especially if your laptop is stingy on the umber of ports like mine is. I used this to read a DVD data disc, and I also inserted a blu ray movie. It read them just fine although I did not paly the movie because I did not have a blu ray program installed.
A great all-in-one DVD Burner, Blu Ray drive and compact USB data hub
I’ve had great success with this all-in-one Blu Ray/DVD burner/USB hub-card reader on my M4 MacBook Pro. My biggest surprise was how well the Mac supports the aging DVD-R format right out of the box. I was able to load up a blank disc, drag and drop my files to it (I had to hold down option to actually add the files to burn, not just create an alias) and then burn 4.7GB of files to blank DVD-R using no additional software on the Mac. For making a standard Data DVD, this works perfectly. If you’re looking to create playable video DVDs, I didn’t test that function, but it should work fine using the right software.
Testing the drive on a Windows 11 PC I wasn’t as lucky. The free software Burn Aware -which I’ve never had trouble with on the PC- failed to read blank DVD-R discs in this drive and burn to them. Windows could tell the drive was there and media loaded, it just couldn’t burn the DVD-R disc. Odd, since I know this drive burns the same media just fine on the Mac. Unfortunately, I didn’t have other blank burnable media to test.
I tested Blu Ray video playback using professionally released Blu Ray movies (and playback software) on each platform and movie playback worked great.
For everything I use this drive for, I only use the built-in cable with USB-C. The drive also has a USB-A connection, but you DON’T need both plugged in at once. There’s an external USB-C connector, but I haven’t used this.
I love that this is a slot-loading drive. It doesn’t use a pop-out tray to load media. The positives of this are compact size and automatic disc-loading & ejection. The downside is dust and grime could get in the mechanism if you don’t keep media clean. The moving parts of slot loading devices can wear out over time.
I love that the eject button is lit in blue on top of the device and works with a simple button press. On the Mac, a disc WILL eject via the eject button but then leave the disc icon sort-of “ghosted” on the desktop. Mac OS prefers the user drag the disc icon to the trash to eject and then the disc disappears in the OS.
The added bonus of this drive is the built in USB drive and SD card reader. I tested these with several USB sticks and SD cards (full sized and micro) and these features performed as expected at 5Gbps USB 3.0 speeds.
If you still need to read/burn DVD media (4.7GB is still a nice backup for photos and documents) play BluRay and need a USB-Data hub for flash drives and SD cards, this device is quite a useful bargain!
