Solar fan kit makes for a fun family projec
    Description
Here I’m reviewing a solar powered fan kit. This is a direct drive package and does not include a battery. Meaning that it runs when the sun is out and shuts off of night or when it gets too cloudy out.

    Testing
Right now it’s winter where I live so I have tested it via the following methodology, which isn’t conventional but worked. I moved the table out from our covered patio into the middle of our back yard. I set the solar panel up on the table facing south for the best possible sun coverage in our region. Next I placed the fans in a vice on the table so they would remain in position without falling over.

On bright non cloudy days the fans ramped up pretty fast, I don’t have a way to measure their spin speed I’m pretty confident they reached full power and had to base that off of the volume of sound they produced. The sound they made in full sunlight I would estimate in the 50 to 60 dBA range. This is a rough estimate based on my years of experience with pc case fans very similar to these. I don’t have any tool to measure this and I’m just using ear. On cloudy days obviously they didn’t spin as fast nor as loud but even in the rain the fans kept on trucking. Obviously you shouldn’t be exposing the fans directly to rain in real use but how else are we going to put that IP67 claim to the test.

    Unboxing
Opening the box you will find the fans, solar panel, and main mounting bracket are all pre-connected. This is a bit odd since you need to now disconnect everything to mount it before reconnecting it again, an step that I could have gone without. Additionally you get a small folded over paper pamphlet with very minimal instructions and a bag of mounting hardware. As far as that bag of mounting hardware goes you get a few small zip ties for cable management, a couple sets of drywall anchors, some machine screws, 3 concrete bolts, and some steel plates.

    Installation / Ease of use
Everybody is going to use these for a slightly different purpose in a wide variety of constructions so I almost did not include this section because of how subjective it is.

I ordered this for my garage which does not have air conditioning and doubles as my workshop. Where I live it gets into the triple digits during the summer months. I don’t expect these fans to cool my garage my goal is air movement. I just need them to circulate the air and prevent stagnation. I have one fan setup to exhaust air and the other is mounted directly next to my workbench pushing air towards where I work. 140mm fans at 3,200 rpm can really put out a nice flow of air which is going to be a huge quality of life improvement.

As for the solar panel itself I mounted it on the eve of my garage. Non of the included mounting hardware would really work for my specific needs but I had alternate supplies on hand. If you are handy and good with electronics you can even figure out how to easily hook an old car battery up to this so it will run at night but that’s beyond the scope of this review.

    Value
As I’m writing this review the listed price shows around $40. Given the current economic situation in the US this is a pretty fair price. Over all I would give this a solid B+ for value.

    Would I recommend?
If you need to circulate air and don’t want to spend a fortune on electricity doing it then a solar kit is just about your only option. Also if you have kids or grand kids it’s a neat little group project to learn about energy, electricity, and simple steps we can take to do our part to make an impact on the planet.

Sunlight Powered Breeze for the Backyard
I recently picked up this solar fan kit for my small backyard shed which tends to turn into an oven by mid afternoon. The package includes a surprisingly large solar panel and two five inch fans that feel fairly solid since they are made of aluminum rather than thin plastic. Setting it up was straightforward because the power cord is over sixteen feet long, allowing me to mount the panel on the roof while the fans sit deep inside the structure.

In my experience, the airflow is impressive when the sun is directly overhead. I noticed the fans kicked on immediately even on a slightly hazy morning, though they definitely slowed down as some late afternoon clouds rolled in. One minor detail I encountered was a slight vibration sound from the metal grilles when they first started up, but it leveled out once they hit full speed.

The lack of a battery means it only runs while the sun is out, which suits my needs for daytime cooling. I particularly like that each fan has its own inline switch, as it gives me the option to run just one if I do not need the full dual exhaust. It has been a reliable way to keep the air moving for my outdoor space without having to worry about wiring into the main power grid.

5" Solar Chicken Coop Fan 2 Ki
5″ Solar Chicken Coop Fan 2 Kit
This assessment is structured from the manufacturer’s provided details, highlighting the design, claimed performance, and included components of this solar-powered ventilation system. A conclusive evaluation of its real-world airflow, durability, and effectiveness in various outdoor conditions will be determined after an extended period of installation and use.

    Primary Design and Performance Specifications:

The central feature of this product is its fully solar-powered operation, utilizing a large monocrystalline solar panel to directly power the fan without a battery. This design mandates that the fan operates only during daylight hours, with performance directly tied to sunlight intensity. The fan is claimed to achieve a maximum speed of 3200 RPM under optimal sun, delivering what is described as high-velocity airflow suitable for spaces up to approximately 110 square feet (10 m). The system offers functional flexibility, as the fan head and solar panel are detachable, connected by a 16.7-foot power cord, allowing for strategic placement—the panel in full sun and the fan in the desired location for either exhaust or intake ventilation.

    Notable Construction and Included Features:

Build Quality: The fan is constructed from heavy-duty aluminum and features dual metal protective grilles. It carries an IP67 waterproof rating, indicating a design intended to withstand dust ingress and temporary immersion in water, which is a critical claim for outdoor, all-weather durability.

Complete Installation Kit: The package is noted to include all necessary hardware for versatile mounting: a solar panel bracket for upright, wall, or roof installation; mounting plates and screws for securing the fan; nylon cable ties for pole hanging; and a plug-and-play connection for the cord. An on/off switch is integrated into the fan cord for manual control.

Longevity and Support: The product description states an expected lifespan of up to 5 years and is backed by a 2-year warranty with offered 24/7 customer support.

Key Points for Future Performance Verification:

The most significant aspects to verify through actual use will be the real-world airflow and cooling effect achieved in a typical small coop or shed, the tangible impact of cloudy versus sunny conditions on fan speed, the ease and security of the physical installation, and the long-term resilience of the materials and IP67 rating against continuous outdoor exposure. The stated versatility for use in greenhouses, dog houses, sheds, and attics provides multiple potential testing environments.

For the final rating, I will return to report on the longevity and performance over time after thorough seasonal testing of its ventilation capabilities, weather resistance, and overall durability.
