Worked Well in a Pinch
For my intents and purposes, this clear tarp functioned appropriately. I recently was in the process of a very large move. Where I was located, the temperatures had dropped quickly and then the rain showers came.
But my team and I were on a tight schedule and had already been delayed for two days due to an emergency at a nearby residence. So, I did not want to wait any longer as considerable funds had already been allocated for the move and I did not want to spend any more money.
The space from the door to the moving truck was not vast, but it was large enough to possibly do damage to my belongings. That is when I remember that I had recently ordered this tarp for a mini greenhouse at my new residence. But instead, the tarp proved to be invaluable by providing coverage from the pouring rain. As we were able to use the tarp to construct a temporary makeshift ceiling cover.
The quality was sufficient and nothing leaked through. I am not sure how it would endure for long term use, but it was durable in that instance and for that I am grateful.
large heavy duty clear tarp
his is a grided clear tarp, it’s large and really heavy duty. got this as a way to keep the roof dry on my vintage winnebago when and if repairs need to happen. this is large enough to cover the length and width of the entire camper. though, i do like i can double this as a greenhouse backup tarp. it matches my greenhouse material perfectly, save for the greenhouse material being green, it’s got the same grid lines and is around the same thickness. considering it’s meant to take on a lot of sun, i expect this to hold up well under UV though i haven’t had it long enough to really be able to tell. definitely a good value, it’s a quality tarp
HUGE recommendation on this tarp! We are building a greenhouse and thought this may well be our cover. We never expected this to be such a great build. The size was better than we had hoped for, never expected to find on this large. THE QUALITY ! – This tarp is FAR SUPERIOR than any other we have checked out in the last YEAR while planning this project. It is 16 mils – nearly double what we had thought we could use. The reinforcements in this are such that we have not a fear of Montana Winds, rains, or hail ! Super thick and durable with these qualities. This will function so well as our green house enclosure. We have started the build during our late season and found this to be fantastic to work with. The Grommets are securely fastened, and as we spread this across the framing the protection this is providing is unmatched. No tears, pull outs or weak areas what so ever. VERY HAPPY and will share a top recommendation on this tarp. And last but certainly not least. This is the super great pricing. !! Comparatively, this is much better deal for this size, and when you factor in the 16 mil thickness with the reinforcing grid this has – hands down a BIG winner!
Very nice Clear Plastic Tarp, fills our need.
I’ve used smaller versions for other projects around our hobby farm, needed a large 1 for this winter to cover some stuff on a trailer.
Wanted the clear version for a couple of reasons.
Being able to see inside without lifting up the tarp, and when I need to go under the tarp, having light to see.
Now for the bullet points (Amazon) on why I believe this 16 Mil Clear Plastic Tarp deserves 5 stars.
Durability:
Everyone knows that when it comes to plastic tarps you really get what you pay for and none of them last forever.
My expectations are for this to last the winter protecting my stuff on my trailer.
As long as it does that, money well spent.
Build quality:
At this price, it feels, physically, better built than tarps that I have purchased from the big box stores for a whole lot more money.
The seams are smooth where the clear plastic meets the reinforcement tape for the grommets along the edge,
As we were unfolding the tarp and pulling it over the trailer there were no creases in the plastic.
Waterproof:
It was pouring down rail when we put this up.
It’s the Pacific North West, Oregon, in December.
Underneath, nice and dry, well other that wet when we started.
The tarp itself is waterproof.
Functionality:
If you look at my pictures, you can see how well it fits on my trailer with the load.
The tarp itself being nice and square, square for 20 foot by 16 foot, secured up very nicely.
Light level:
Being mostly clear, I’m guessing this tarp is passing greater than 95% of the light.
The reinforcement cords and the plastic itself will filter something out.
I have no way of measuring this.
Thickness:
The listing states that the tarp is 16 mil.
I have to take their word on that.
It does feel like it could be 16 mil.
I was an Aircraft Mechanic, A&P Licensed, for 20+ years, and still have a good feel for 0.020 inch, or 20 mil, aluminum sheet metal.
So this is an educated feel.
Size:
Sold as 16 foot by 20 foot.
I did not measure it.
Probably should have since I’m doing a review, but was racing the weather to get this tarp in place before the rain got too bad.
By eyeball, it looks right, and I’m happy with it.
Grommets:
Would have been nice to have more grommets but what’s there is, is adequate.
The grommets themselves are well places, well sized, and properly assembled.
All of the grommets were intact.
If this tarp is still usable next winter I will be pleasantly happy.
If no, I will buy another for next year.
I went into this with both eyes wide open and fully understand “disposable” tarps.
Yes, I recommend this tarp if you have a need for this style of tarp
