Nice String Trimmer, Makita 18 volt Compatible
I already have a gas powered string trimmer that I’ve used for several years. However, I also wanted a cordless electric one and, since I have several Makita 18v cordless tools, batteries, and chargers, this Makita compatible from Zuyiyi really appealed to me. Also, I have a inch hex impact driver from this same vendor and it works pretty well.

Some minor assembly is required to put this string trimmer together to start using it. This is not difficult which is good because the written instructions that come with the trimmer are pretty poor. Fortunately, the Amazon description has a video that does a good job with showing to assemble it. Ony two tools are required, which are included: a 4mm hex key and a P2 screwdriver. The latter, however, has a handle so small that you may want to use your own if you have one. In addition to the guard, which is held in place with two screws, there is a little bracket with two wheels that is also held in place with two screws. This assembly can be installed in one of two places. First, it can be put in position to support the trimmer when it is used vertically as an edger. And, also, it can be installed to support it horizontally when used as a trimmer.

A nice feature is that the angle of the handle and the head are easily adjustable with push buttons. Plus, the handle adjusts in the other direction with a hand clamp that requires no tools. One line spool is included that is already loaded and there are three coils of spare line also that come with the trimmer. Line diameter appears to be 2mm, so if you can’t find that when you need more, .080 inch line is pretty close and should work. Note that the Amazon description also has a video showing how to reload the spool with line so make sure to review that.

When I tried this out, it seemed to work pretty well. Spring is just starting to be sprung here in the Northeast USA where I live, but I did manage to find a few spots in my yard for testing. It had plenty of power and the 15 inch diameter cut path covered a lot of area. It supposedly has an auto line feed, but I am not sure I used it long enough to test this. It also has a manual bump feed button on the bottom and there is a metal blade on the guard that cuts the line when it extends to the full cutting diameter.

When I got this Zuyiyi trimmer, it was selling for about $80 on Amazon. A roughly comparable genuine Makita sells for about $160, or double the price. On the other hand, this trimmer has a one year warranty while the genuine Makita has a three year warranty. And I have had some of my Makita cordless tools for many years without any failures. So, you will have to determine the right one for your needs and budget. As always, do your homework before hitting that “Buy Now” button.
